Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Sight and Sound have finally released their once-a-decade list of Top 50 Greatest Movies Of All Time, and after reigning supreme for ages, Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane has finally been kicked off the top spot by Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. And if you’re making your way through the list but realize that you don’t recognize many of them due to their age, then have no fear, as The Playlist has gone and found as many of them as they could for you to view online for free.

So why not kick off all your viewing with Welles classic:

Yesterday he was an irritating Frenchman and today he’s an irritating love-cherub. Russell Brand is in talks to play the title role in a new romantic comedy called Cupid, which sees the funny(?)man as a cranky Cupid who gets tasked with creating the perfect romance.

Fresh from adapting (and upsetting fans of) Lee Child’s novel “One Shot” into the Tom Cruise actioner, Jack Reacher, for Paramount, Christopher McQuarrie has once again been approached by the studio to adapt Tom Clancy’s “Without Remorse”. The novel is set in the same universe as the Jack Ryan stories, and the lead character, ex-Vietnam vet and mercenary Clark, actually already made an onscreen appearance courtesy of Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger. Judging by his track record of changing characters up with Jack Reacher though, I’m expecting McQuarrie’s iteration of the character to be played by a CGI Gary Coleman.

Speaking of Jack Ryan, reports are that Keira Knightley, Evangeline Lilly and Felicity Jones are apparently all vying for the lead female role opposite Chris Pine in the Kenneth Branagh directed franchise reboot. Since the franchise has traditionally been a very testosterone driven affair, with the females being nothing more than pretty plot devices, I say they should settle this using mud, bikinis and videocameras. Oh come on, I know you were thinking it!

Today, the 2nd of August in the year 2012, will go down in infamy in the annals of history (I said “annals” with two n’s, check again), as it will probably be the first and the last time that I post a Justin Bieber music video on this site. The reason for me torturing you guys like this, is none other than Michael Madsen, whose career I had thought could get no lower after I saw that he was starring in Piranhaconda, a film which looks every bit as terrible as it sounds.

I have to admit, the only reason I even clicked on this video in the first place, is because I was hoping that somewhere in there Madson would cut off Bieber’s ear while listening to some 1970’s folk rock. Unfortunately, I had to settle for just a Bieber beatdown at the end of the video.

An early frontrunner for “WTF Sequel of the Year”, Raging Bull 2 has officially changed its title to Bronx Bull due to that whole pesky lawsuit thing.

So hey, you know that silly comic book pseudoscience in The Amazing Spider-Man that allowed Dr  Curt Connors aka The Lizard to regenerate his limbs using reptilian DNA? Crazy, right? Turns out, not so much

Hey, look! It’s Arnold Schwarzenegger in sunglasses with spiky hair! Here’s a first look at the governator in The Last Stand, which will be his first leading role since Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Arnie will play a small border town sheriff who, along with his small town police force, is all that stands in the way of the most wanted drug kingpin in the Northern hemisphere as he races towards the border in a specially outfitted car, along with a hostage.

It’s official, Ridley Scott will get another opportunity to have really smart people do really dumb things! That’s right, FOX has greenlit the Prometheus sequel, but don’t expect it anytime soon though, as it will more than likely only be not answering our questions in 2014 or 2015, as FOX’s president of production Emma Watts explains:

“Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.”

Director of Megamind and the Madagascar films, Tom McGrath will get a chance to prove that he can actually work with real life people as he is set to direct the Ben Stiller family comedy Rentaghost. (And yes, I know that animated movies have real people working on them as well, but since do we let reality stand in the way of a joke?)

Ah, Pixar, you may not be producing the gems that you used to, but you’ll always find ways to warm the heart. Just take a look at this rather inspirational letter the animation studio’s Pete Doctor, director of Up and Monster’s Inc, wrote to middle school teacher Martin Kelsey in 2009, after Kelsey asked Docter for any life advice he could pass onto his students.

Newsarama is doing a rundown of the 10 Best Comic-Book Based Movie Performances of All Time. Yes, you’ve probably guessed no.1 correctly.

Fanboys director Kyle Newman next project will be the satirical Chewie, which focuses on hospital worker turned actor, Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in Star Wars, during his time making the classic film trilogy.

Batman might try to play it all cool and aloof, but we all know that deep down he is just an angry, angry man. I mean, after what Joel Schumacher did to him, would you blame him? Now we all get angry from time to time, and some of you may even play video games to blow off some steam, something which Batman is giving a try in this new fan film from Crave Online. But as anybody who’s ever played online knows, there’s a whole lot of rage out there.
