Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I’m usually a grumpy old bastard, but my sense of hope has just been rekindled! Because surely, if Arnie can make peace with the Predator, then the rest of humanity’s problems can’t be that hard to overcome.

And yes, that momentous occasion was indeed witnessed by Darth Vader, seated in the front row. He was probably about to hug a Tusken Raider.

THR looks at 5 Hidden Reasons Behind Avengers’ Success. Strangely enough, “Scarlett Johansson and Cobie Smulders in skin-tight leather” is not in that list.

Speaking of Cobie Smulders, HeroComplex has nice write-up on how she got the part of Maria Hill in Joss Whedon’s blockbuster and impressed all her co-workers with her willingness to get banged up. In stunts, you sick bastards.

Here’s the first look at Brian De Palma’s latest film, Passion. Despite what the synopsis below this image may say, this film is actually just about Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams getting freaky in the back of a car. Or at least that’s what I hope it’s about.

“An erotic thriller in the tradition of “Dressed To Kill” and “Basic Instinct”, Brian de Palma’s PASSION tells the story of a deadly power struggle between two women in the dog-eat-dog world of international business. Christine possesses the natural elegance and casual ease associated with one who has a healthy relationship with money and power. Innocent, lovely and easily exploited, her admiring protégé Isabelle is full of cutting-edge ideas that Christine has no qualms about stealing. They’re on the same team, after all… Christine takes pleasure in exercising control over the younger woman, leading her one step at a time ever deeper into a game of seduction and manipulation, dominance and humiliation. But when Isabelle falls into bed with one of Christine’s lovers, war breaks out. On the night of the murder, Isabelle is at the ballet, while Christine receives an invitation to seduction. From whom? Christine loves surprises. Naked she goes to meet the mystery lover waiting in her bedroom…”

Hey looks like I’m pretty much on the money.

Cameron Diaz has kicked rival Angelina Jolie’s bony butt to the curb, taking the female lead role in Ridley Scott’s Cormac McCarthy-scripted The Counsellor.

Inspired by the Prometheus promotional campaign’s attempts at showing us the entire film before its release, our geeky cries of opposition of opposition be damned, MovieLine takes a look at 9 Spoiler Filled Trailers That Gave It All Away

A prime example is last year’s Richard Gere and Topher Grace thriller, The Double. It’s not a trailer so much as it is a Readers’ Digest version of the entire film. See for yourself:

I know that most of you can barely remember what you had for lunch, let alone a few months back, but that’s when WB suddenly pulled the Walter Hill (Warriors, 48 Hours) directed Sly Stallone actioner Bullet to the Head from their release schedule. But now it’s back on there with a 1 February 2013 release date.

As a man who has been married 4 years, and has now thoroughly entered the completely comfortable stage of the relationship, I can completely identify with this new poster for Judd Apatow’s This is 40.

Ladies, you want to prove your geeky love to the man in your life? Then you need to get yourself this Princess Leia Hair Bun Hoodie. He’ll snuggle up with you like you were a Tauntaun.

GeekTyrant has this hilarious look at The Avengers’ High School yearbook photo and all I can say, “Holy crap, Jeremy Renner. That has got to be the most geometrically perfect mullet I have ever seen!”

It’s Spider-Man vs Spider-Man! Tobey Maguire interviews Andrew Garfield about his upcoming Spider-Man reboot. I was very disappointed to get to the end of the article though, and not find out that Maguire was actually playing Ben Reilly. /comicgeekjoke

Gary Busey is loco. You know it, I know it. But just in case you need to convince somebody else about his lunacy, then just show them this promotional clip he did for Piranha 3DD.
