Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Fresh on the chronological heels of yesterday’s International trailer for Rian Johnson’s Looper, comes a new US trailer, because they’re apparently special. The why’s of it is actually not important though, as this trailer once again really kicks some ass with some great previously seen scenes. However, just as I did with yesterday’s trailer, I’m adding this bit of advice straight from the director himself: While none of these trailers are awfully spoilerific, the less you know about this movie going into it, the better.

It looks like Jena Malone is just not quite the tribute of choice any longer, as Deadline is reporting the model turned actress Zoe Aggeliki has edged to the front of the race to play the ax-wielding Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man of his word. Just like he promised all those years ago, he’s coming back. To Comic-Con that is. The Governator is set to make his first entertainment scene appearance since leaving public office at the San Diego convention as part of the Expendables 2 panel.

It’s been all quiet on the Riddick front after production officially wrapped a short while back, but star Vin Diesel took to Facebook to release a new pic of the film yesterday, as well as the news that he’s seen writer/director David Twohy’s first cut of the film.

“Last night I was invited, by the director, to the editing room… to see an early first cut of the new Riddick…

WOW!!!

P.s. I was so affected/excited… I couldn’t sleep.

GRRRR!!!”

Vin Diesel just growled people. Now I really can’t wait to see this damn movie!

Just like it’s sneaky subject, an official website for The Dark Knight Rises has just appeared from out of nowhere.

American Pie funnyman and International Mr Bushy-Brows winner for the last 10 years, Eugene Levy, will be joining Tyler Perry in Madea’s Witness Protection.

Whatever you may have thought of director Joseph Kosinski’s Tron Legacy, there’s no denying that it was the greatest Darth Punk music video you’ve ever seen or heard. His collaboration with the acclaimed elcectropop group should have earned him an Oscar, but was famously snubbed at the awards ceremony. But I guess Kosinski is of the school of “Try, try and try again” as acclaimed French electropop group M83 will be providing the score for his next project, the Tom Cruise sci-fi actioner Oblivion.

One movie that I’m really looking forward to, but which is completely flying below the radar currently is director William Friedkin’s darl and twisted kidnapping story Killer Joe. Early buzz has been all about Matthew McConaughey’s scene stealing performance, but he’s not the only one that will be chewing up some scenery as this new clip from the film shows.

True to it’s clandestine ways, there has been very little info available about The Bourne Legacy. But Empire Magazine has managed to pull together a rather complete dossier on the film, including such interesting tidbits as director Tony Gilroy’s falling out with Matt Damon, how the film almost became a prequel and how Edward Norton is not actually a villain.

Superman Homepage has posted a new set pic for Man of Steel, showing Robert Gerdisch (Whitney Fordman), Jack Foley (Pete Ross), and Dylan Sprayberry (young Clark Kent).

Firstly, that looks like no Pete Ross I’ve ever seen before. Maybe he ate the original Pete? Secondly, you would think that with super-speed, young Clark would actually find the time to brush his damn hair.

Remember that 10-Disc Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One boxset? Well, the House of Ideas has just released a trailer for it. Damn it, and here I am , fresh out of kidneys to sell. Hey, I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life. I can live perfectly OK on one lung right?

Entertainment Weekly has scored this first look at Tom Cruise in the title role of Paramount’s Jack Reacher. An adaptation of Lee Child’s best-selling novel “One Shot”, this thriller sees Cruise as an an ex–military policeman who ends up involved in the case of a deadly sniper who randomly targets civilians.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really disappointed to not seeing the patented Tom Cruise run in action.

EW also spoke to director Christopher McQuarrie (who previously only directed Way of the Gun, but has a string of writing accolades including The Usual Suspects) who elaborated more on the character:

“Other than those ties to a haunted past, investigating soldiers who went lethally astray, Reacher has very little in the present.

He is free from any sort of anxiety. He is truly not encumbered by all the bulls–t that makes up our daily lives. He literally and figuratively has no baggage.

He is an extremely pragmatic, matter-of-fact person. He’s very solitary, but he can’t walk away from a situation that needs to be made right. His own sense of right and wrong tie into that situation and he can’t leave until it’s been resolved. That’s his Achilles heel.”

According to Latino Review, Legendary Pictures will be showing off something to do with their proposed Godzilla reboot at Comic Con in 2 weeks, and it will apparently be “sick”. Their words, not mine. They will apparently also be showing off the first preview of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim.

Remember that 25-minute long Amazing Spider-Man video that hit the web earlier in the week? Well, director Marc Webb really doesn’t want you to watch it. Which is kind of weird seeing as all the footage used to make that clip had already been put out earlier, and they sure as hell wanted us to watch that!

If I had to think of one actor who could teach me how to be a man, I’d probably choose Liam the Wolf-Puncher Neeson, with Mark Wahlberg being a distant 73rd. But unfortunately, it looks like Mr Neeson is far too busy eradicating the male Albanian bloodline from the face of the Earth to offer any advice right now, so MTV’s After Hours went with Marky Mark. He does a surprisingly decent job, covering a range of topics from man screams to manly nicknames.

So be a man and click the video.
