Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

If you, like most of us around here, are eagerly using the trusted prison system of scratching out 4 vertical lines on your wall (screw those Gregorians!) to count down the days until we see Peter Capaldi as the Doctor in Doctor Who, then this is just for you. 3D artist Xander David-Hugh has gone and created a damn perfect mock intro credits sequence that should whet your appetite for some new Doctor Who even further.

Remember that Star Wars casting rumour that I mentioned last week that a bunch of news publications were sitting on but didn’t want to release because they had no proof? Well, it’s finally been revealed, and it’s flimsier than an old man wang. The story goes that Benedict Cumberbatch will be reteaming with JJ Abrams for an unspecified role in Episode VII. The basis of this rumour? Cumberbatch said he loves Star Wars and his schedule is free at about the time Episode VII starts shooting. If those were the only criteria, then why aren’t there any rumours about me joining the film? Darth Kervyn has a nice ring to it.

Jeez, new poster for Ben Stiller’s Secret Life of Walter Mitty! I’ve heard of jumping the shark, but standing on the shark? That’s a new one, even for me.

Ever since the crowdfinding success of the Veronica Mars movie, it seems that every Tom, Dick and Harry filmmaker is trying to start some kicks. Not Vin Diesel though. The Riddick star revealed that after a fan told him that they would be willing to give of their own money to make a third, R-rated film in the Riddick saga happen, Diesel felt obliged to make the passion project a reality. Even if the studios didn’t want to back him and he had to offer up some personal items as collateral.

“I had to leverage my house. If we didn’t finish the film, I would be homeless.”

Yeesh. He and David Twohy apparently also had to cut the production time in half to trim the budget, and had to “learn how to be independent filmmakers again”. All because they wanted to deliver the film that fans wanted to see. Bless ’em.

Hang around here long enough, and you’ll probably hear me talking about the Star Wars Extended Universe (I try to slip it into every major conversation, much like the word “tiddlywinks”), but I realized that there may be some of you who have no idea what that means. But have no fear, I will now give you a good introduction to the Extended Universe, listing the major works that should be checked out by anyone interested in it. And what I actually mean, is that I will now give you this link to LiteReactor where you can read all about it, because I’m a lazy sod.

While checking out that trailer for Neighbors earlier today, did you perhaps look at it and think, “Man, this could really do with some more Zac Efron topless and/or smoking a pipe”? Well, then go shorty, it’s your birthday, as that’s exactly what you’re getting with these two new snaps from the comedy.

I have been told that there are people in this world that don’t like either robots or dinosaurs. It’s tough to believe, I know, but it’s apparently true. I guess these near mythical people are going to have a huge problem with Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 then (you know, besides for it being Michael Bay’s Transformers 4), as it’s been confirmed that the Dinobots will be featured in the sequel. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed the rumoured appearance of the fan favourite Transformers spinoff characters. Also, Chinese cars apparently.

“I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the arrival of the Dinobots will give the audience a lot to be excited about. The world’s coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including Chinese vehicles, so whether you are a car enthusiast or not, it will be a feast for the eyes.”

Feeling guilty about that that backlog of “must-see” movies that you just “haven’t-seen”? Well, then here’s something that should make you feel better: Even people in the film industry have their own pile of shame.

When your film is about a mischievously violent demon that crawls out of a man’s rectum (yes, you read that correctly), then I guess there’s no way that your film’s poster is going to be subtle. No tiddlywinking (close enough) way at all, hey Bad Milo?

Despite me trying to educate the masses, there are still people propagating the rumour that Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in the still untitled Batman VS Superman film, and will be signing a deal for six more appearances. Well, if these people don’t want to listen to me, maybe they’ll listen to Cranston himself.

“Six? [laughs] This is all news to me. I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.”

Speaking of unlikely things comic book fans fans want to see… There’s probably a higher statistical likelihood that Darryn will win a Miss World pageant one day, than there is for us ever seeing an Avengers VS Justice League movie, but luckily we live on the internet, the realm of the impossible. So step right up, Youtuber Mr88668866, because you done good with this rather geektacular fan made trailer that splices together elements from various comic book films and video games to make one epic video.
