Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I have to admit, while I’m still pretty wary, I have warmed up just a smidge more to the idea of the idea of a Robocop reboot. Most of that fraction of goodwill being won by the film’s trailers. But none of the previously released trailers compare to this homemade, shot-for-shot version from CineFix though.

Fresh from his stellar audition for dying Jabba the Hutt and dying taun-taun, funnyman Bill Hader will be joining funny woman Amy Schumer as the lead in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck. Schumer penned the script, but the plot details are being kept under wraps. Knowing Schumer and Appatow’s flavour of comedy though, you can probably expect a few penis jokes and some flagrant weed usage.

Ever wonder which supervillain hideout is the biggest? And no, Nkandla is not an acceptable answer. Well Movoto has gone done a massive roundup of 40 Infamous Villain Hideouts You Wish Were Real, and compared them against each other to see which is the big mama of them all.

This new short teaser trailer for Jonathan “Sexy Beast” Glazer’s weird body snatchers movie, Under the Skin, is… is… Well, it’s definitely something, I just can’t tell you what that something is right now. What I can tell you is that this is the first movie where star Scarlett Johansson will be getting nekkid on screen. Somehow I have the feeling this may be more important to you than the complete what-the-f@#kery on display here.

Hold on to your decks, people (I said “decks”, as in decks of cards, you pervs), as it looks like we may just see a Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum some time soon. Tatum has previously expressed his desire to play the role – his favourite X-Man – as he grew up in New Orleans and can apparently do a mean Cajun accent. And apparently long time X-Men franchise producer Laura Shuler Donner agrees.

“I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart.”

So about that long in development Cowboy Bebop movie… Thanks to this awesome bit of cosplay from Benedict Cumberbatch, I think we may just have found our Spike Speigel!

Quiet down, class, Film School is in session! If you’ve seen any of Edgar Wright’s films – and you really, really should! – then you’ll know that the director is a master of the close-up shot. He uses them frequently and brilliantly, and now he finally explains how and why. If you’re a film geek, this is a must-see.

We just got wind of the writers being confirmed for Thor 3 yesterday, and already the story rumours have begun. According to one of HitFix’s sources, Thor may be getting ready to rock – Ragnarok, that is – for his third big screen outing. Writers Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost had previously laid down some hints that they were interested in one of Thor’s major comic book storylines – an apocalyptic tale about the end of all Asgardian gods that will see Thor having to battle against Midgard (Earth) – and HitFix’s source claims that “the end of “Age Of Ultron” sets up a difficult situation for Thor as Midgard and Asgard find themselves looking at a possible war. Could we be looking at the beginning of Ragnarok, brought on by Loki in the guise of Odin?”

As any parent knows, teenagers are manipulative, secretive and want to rule over the human population in the midst of a global apocalypse. Okay, maybe that last one is new, but that’s what Dracula (that’s the new movie, not the classic novel) writer Jess Peyronel will have to deal with when he writes and directs, Sheltered, an adaptation of the Image comic of the same name.

Peyronel will be teaming up with The Walking Dead  producers, Circle of Confusion, to adapt Ed Brisson and Johnnie Christmas’ story which is described as “a preapocalyptic thriller set in a survivalist compound somewhere in the Pacific Northwest and populated by families who believe an imminent volcanic eruption is about to make the U.S. uninhabitable for years. Yet the adults are unprepared for a strike from within in the form of a coup d’etat by the kids, led by a charming sociopathic teen.”

How’s this for some cool geekery, a video montage of every Visual Effects Oscar winner.

World Sexy Winking Champion Forrest Whitaker is set to produce, direct, co-star and probably do the on-set catering for an adaption of William Paul Young’s best selling novel, The Shack. John Fusco (Hidalgo, Young Guns) will be penning the script based on young’s 2007 self-published novel, which has the following logline: In the aftermath of a devastating personal tragedy, Mackenzie Allen Philips receives a mysterious note in his mailbox inviting him to The Shack. The letter is signed Papa, his wife’s nickname for God. Mack responds and finds himself in the presence of God, and a life-transforming journey of truth, forgiveness, and ultimately acceptance.

Did you know that before JJ Abrams and his big ol’ bag of lens flares came along, there was actually another Star Trek reboot planned? Giant Freaking Robot got a hold of the canned script, titled Star Trek: The Beginning, which was being setup as a prequel and would have followed Tiberius Chase, a “top-gun starfighter pilot in the United Earth Stellar Navy” and an ancestor of James T. Kirk. The story involves a Romulan surprise attack on Earth, as part of a plan to wipe out all Vulcans, and it really makes for some interesting reading, especially if you’re a Trekkie.

And in a symmetrical move, let’s end today off on another Robocop note. A very honest Robocop note.
