Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I’m sure that there are quite a few fans of the Harry Potter books and films among you guys. And I’m also sure that a bunch of you are probably wishing that you could see more of that “10 Years later” time period glimpsed at the end of the last film. Well, you’re in luck, as a new 7 part web series will be taking a look at the adventures of the grown up Harry and friends, and the first trailer for it has just been released.

Oh did I mention that it’s actually a hilarious parody?

There have been a couple of actresses attached to the role of Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but it looks like Jena Malone, who was initially rumoured for the part and then dismissed, just Sucker Punched them all! (You know, because she was in Sucker Pu– Oh forget it). THR is reporting that the casting is all but a done deal for the young actress.

If you’re currently in possession of male genitalia (as a part of your body, not just in your fridge, you sickos) and are still undecided about whether you should watch Magic Mike, especially after yesterday’s Channing Tatum dude-ity, then you might want to head over to CinemaBlend where they list 5 Reasons Why Straight Guys Should See Magic Mike. To save you some time, I’ll even list the most important reason on that list: Breasts. Lots and lots of naked breasts.

“Marvel Untitled Movie”, or as we like to call it, Guardians of the Galaxy, has been rescheduled. The film will now move back on the calendar from May 16, 2014 to August 1, 2014.

Entertainment Weekly has scored this piece of Iron Man 3 concept art from Marvel Studios artist Ryan Meinerding. Note the lack of the wristbands Tony Stark previously used in the movies to engage his armour? This further cements the claim that writer/director Shane Black will be doing a version of the nanotechnology-themed Extremis storyline.

The Dark Knight Rises will have a 2 hours 45 minutes running time. How do we know? Because the British Board of Film Classification said so, and they’re like official and stuff.

If you haven’t heard, Outkast frontman Andre 3000 will be playing legendary rocker Jimi Hendrix in the biopic All Is By My Side. Know what else you won’t hear? Jimi Hendrix songs! The purveyors of the Hendrix estate, Experience Hendrix LLC, are not allowing anybody/anything to use Hendrix’s catalog without their involvement. As a workaround, the film is being set in London before the release Hendrix’s debut album, and will have the guitar virtuoso performing covers of songs from The Beatles, Muddy Waters and more.

Rolling Stone also has pic of Andre 3000 and Hayley Atwell in costume.

If you happen to find yourself in San Diego at Comic-Con next week Saturday, then Hall H is where you want to be. According the film’s Facebook page, The Hobbit will be showing up there.

“We’re excited to announce that we will be bringing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to San Diego Comic-Con! Join director Peter Jackson, producer Philippa Boyens, Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis and Richard Armitage for a special look at the upcoming film on Saturday, July 14th, in Hall H.”

Happy Will-Smith-Punches-An-Alien Day everybody! And to celebrate the 4th of July, a band of real American heroes would like to say a few words:

Comrade,

As we celebrate our nation’s independence this 4th of July, we thought you might want to take a moment, over a cigar, to contemplate what makes the perfect American summer movie.

Perhaps it’s the presence of a true, classic American hero (or a dirty dozen of them). The Expendables 2 harkens back to a time when our heroes were flesh and blood – putting their lives on the line for a cause, taking on impossible odds, and relying on sheer guts, skill and a refusal to quit.

In theaters everywhere on August 17th, we hope you won’t miss this red-blooded American classic.

Sincerely,

The Expendables

Just so that we don’t ruin that patriotic glow, I think I’ll rather just not mention that in that band of Real American Heroes you’ll find an Englishman, an Austrian, a Swede and a couple of Asians.

You can now buy a Magic Mike action figure. That is all.

It seems that Idris Elba won’t be the only one sporting badass armour in Guillermo Del Toro’s monsters vs mechs movie Pacific Rim. A scan from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly show Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam and Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi also all suited up.

Lili Taylor (Ransom, High Fidelity, Say Anything) and Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica) will be joining Hemlock Grove, the TV series to be produced and directed by Eli Roth for Netflix. The synopsis for the series sounds every bit as messed up as you would expect from the horror movie director.

Hemlock Grove starts with the body of a young girl, mangled and murdered in the shadow of the former Godfrey steel mill. Some suspect an escapee from the White Tower, a biotech facility owned by the former steel magnates. Others believe the killer could be Peter (Landon Liboiron), a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, who tells his classmates he’s a werewolf. Or it could be Roman (Bill Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister Shelley (Amazon Eve) is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Famke Janssen), is the otherworldly beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.

As the crime goes unsolved and outlandish rumors mount, Peter and Roman decide to find the killer themselves, confronting unspeakable truths about themselves and Hemlock Grove as the mystery unfolds.

Now that those scientists at CERN have finally discovered the Higgs Boson particle, maybe they can use their newfound free time to help out Unsung Films who are trying to crack the Nicolas Cage Paradox.

As mentioned earlier, Dark Knight Rises is going to be a pretty big film. Literally.  This video showing how an IMAX theatre prepares for the showing of Chris Nolan’s film throws around some staggering figures. I had no idea that this much work was required to get an IMAX movie of this scale onto the screen. Seriously, you guys need to see this.
