It’s just under 4 weeks until Quentin Tarantino’s latest tale of violence, revenge and name pronunciation lessons gets unleashed on the world. In celebration, a global public holiday has been declared. I’m not too sure what reindeer and a fat guy sponsored by Coca Cola has to do with Django Unchained, but hey, I ain’t complaining. And to keep the Django cheer alive, here’s a new TV spot for the film.
Beyonce is going to direct an HBO documentary about Beyonce. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
There’s this rather insightful article over on The Guardian which actually addresses a rather sore topic of mine, namely how the delayed release window system is actually contributing to piracy in the film and TV industry. I’ve been making this argument for a while now, but they got graphs and stats, yo, so hopefully more people listen to them.
Keeping things piratical (Arrrrrrrr!), TorrentFreak have posted this very interesting write up which cites research done by the Munich School of Management and Copenhagen Business School that claim that the shutdown of massive file sharing site (and popular pirate haven) MegaUpload by authorities actually contributed to lower box office numbers for certain movies.
With a name like Les Miserables it should only come as surprise to people without forebrains that Tom Hooper’s Broadway musical adaptation is getting a French poster.
The three not-so-wise men over at BBC’s Top Gear – the greatest car show known to man – have taken the Tumbler aka the Batmobile from Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy out for a test drive on their track. Unfortunately, they didn’t get to put their tame racing driver, The Stig, behind the wheel. Some say that he discovered Batman’s secret identity just from the smell of his farts, and that he can do the Joker’s disappearing pencil trick using a pool noodle.
The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson spoke to MTV where revealed that director Francis Lawrence has chosen to shoot certain sequences, specifically all the scenes set in the arena, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in the supersized IMAX format.
“They’re shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX. So when you go see it in IMAX, you’ll see the regular movie when we’re in the Districts and in the Capitol. When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It’s very cool.”
That’s very Wizard of Oz of Lawrence, and will probably look pretty cool. You know, if we actually still had IMAX in the country (must not get sad must not get sad must not get sad).

Hopefully this new international poster for ensemble comedy Movie 43 will help to make a sizeable deposit to the bank again. Since this movie stars just about every actor/actress in Hollywood who wasn’t too busy for the last couple months, this lovely lass could be just about anybody. I mean, they wouldn’t just put a random scantily clad lass on their poster just to get more hits now would they?
Up until today, I had no idea who Rita Ora was, but apparently Rihanna hates her. The Barbadian singer (and I use that term in the loosest sense) recently made news when she accused Ora, another up and coming pop singer, of copying her look and style and looking during various celeb events.
Why am I talking about all of this People Magazine styled drivel here? Well, after making her acting debut in Battleships earlier in the year, Rihanna was set for a sophomore acting gig as a villainous vixen in Fast and Furious 6. Except that role has now been given to Rita Ora.

There are apparently not just one but two biopics about Micheal Hutchens, the deceased frontman of 90’s Aussie rock group INXS, currently in production. The first will be based on the book “Just A Man – The Real Michael Hutchence” written by Hutchen’s sister and mother, and will apparently not be an “exploitative tell-all” but rather paint the singer in a positive light. Good luck, putting a rosy spin on death auto-erotic asphyxiation.
The other project, Michael, will be writtern and directed Richard Lowenstein, who also directed Hutchens in the 1986 film Dogs in Space. The script will be drawing from Lowenstein’s own relationship with the singer. None of the two productions have any actors attached yet, but with this being a race to see which one gets released first, neither of them can afford to really hang around.
Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink will be jumping out of the jacuzzi and into the cement mixer, as he’s signed on to helm Contractors, a comedy set in the world of construction. Written by Bob Fisher and Dave Hemingson back in 2007 already, the film follows “two underachieving builders who are hired to build a dream house for a millionaire and his girlfriend who, it turns out, is one of the builder’s ex-girlfriends.”
And if your spank bank balance is still running low, then unfortunately the best I have to offer is this new international poster for Hansel and Gretel. Hey, it’s got Gemma Arterton in leather showing off cleavage, and if you make with the zooming, you can even have Famke Jannsen join the party. As soon as you get pass Jeremy Renner, that is.
Due to a certain 1978 Holiday Special, the words “Star Wars” and “Christmas” generally cannot be said in close proximity without some fan’s head exploding. But I have to admit, these Star Wars Christmas cards by artist PJ McQuade certainly go a long way to right that horrendous wrong. The Chewbacca/Rudolp mash-up is a personal favourite of mine.
You may recall a while back that actor Don Cheadle recorded a short for Funny or Die that cast him as a live action version of 1990’s cartoon environmental superhero Captain Planet. Only not the Captain Planet any of us remembered. Well, now Cheadle is back in a sequel to that skit, and if you thought that the first part was messed up, wait until you lay your eyeballs on this one. Just a NSFW warning: his supermullet is not the only offensive thing about this Captain Planet.
