We kick off today with all things Dredd. Sagar Rathod is an FX artist who did work on the film as well many other big budget affairs like The Golden Compass, Prince of Persia and Sherlock Holmes. He has recently released a showreel showing off his work, and nestled in among everything, between the 0:33 and 1:01 mark, is a pre-viz concept video that shows somebody using the drug Slo-Mo through an inhaler, it changing their perceptions of reality and them then engaging in a shoot-out, which if the final edit of the film follows this, shows why this film earned its R rating.

You’d think that there wasn’t much to dressing if you’re James Bond: Tear nameless Eastern European girl off your manly bits, put on snazzy suit, look suave. But apparently there’s a lot more to it than that, as is revealed in the latest video blog for Skyfall.
Robin Williams, Shirley Maclaine and Project X’s Oliver Cooper are all joining A Film By Alan Stuart Reisner. No, I have not just lost control of the italics and capitals (I run a tight ship around here, people!). That is actually the name of the film, which will be a comedy directed by Andrew Bergman, the man who previously brought you the best body that Demi Moore’s money could buy in Striptease.
I know news travels fast but damn! An article written by David Grann, titled The Yankee Commandante, appeared in the New Yorker very recently. Now, just 10 days later, Deadline is reporting that George Clooney wants to direct an adaptation of that article, which tells the true story of William Alexander Morgan, an American who became the only foreigner, besides for the Argentinian Che Guevara, to rise up to the rank of Commandante in the Cuban Rebellion. In 1959, he would help overthrow the government, paving the way for Fidel Castro to become Cuba’s Prime Minister. Morgan’s reasons for being involved though came under suspicion and he was convicted of being an US spy and ended up facing a firing squad for his shadowy actions.

Thinner director Tom Holland is looking to direct a big screen adaptation of the Stephen King short story Ten O’Clock People, which follows Bostonian, Brandon Pearson, “who in trying to kick his smoking habit uncovers a frightening aspect of reality that he plans to extinguish through extreme measures.”
Not having read the story before, I’m just picturing Nicotine gum coming to life and trying to chew him!
As reported yesterday, it appears that Marvel will be producing a Black Panther live action film. IndieWire takes a look at 5 Actors Who Could Play Black Panther, and while most of them are relative newcomers whom most of you won’t recognize, I feel pretty ashamed at not having thought of Chiwetel Ejiofour. Yes, he’s already pushing 34, but he’s certainly proven his capability with drama as well as action. Plus, he totally worked with Joss Whedon in Serenity. That’s like the equivalent of knowing the secret handshake that gets you into the Marvel club.
Kevin Spacey is one of the finest actors in Hollywood today. His presence always seems to just elevate everything and everybody around him. And you can’t find that on better display than Benjamin Leavitt’s funny short film, The Ventriloquist.

Looking at the Dredd image, I’m a bit sad now that they didn’t use the Eagle shoulder pad in some way. But that costume actually does for Dredd what the X-Men movies did for their costumes.
