Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I know this gets mentioned every other week, but I think its safe to say that Hollywood is now officially out of ideas (until the next that this needs to be said). Jack and Jill producer – which is never a good way to start a sentence – Todd Garner is currently putting together a feature film based on Internet meme, Grumpy Cat, that will feature the popular feline speaking a la Garfield style.

“This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy.  You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next.  We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.”

And thanks to Collider for summing up that news in this appropriate image.

Speaking of things that Hollywood does that doesn’t make sense, Viggo Mortensen has spilled the beans on why he didn’t take up the offer to reprise his Lord of the Rings role of Aragorn in The Hobbit Trilogy.

“Before they started shooting, back in 2008, one of the producers did ask if I would be interested. I said, ‘You do know, don’t you, that Aragorn isn’t in The Hobbit? That there is a 60-year gap between the books?’

I’m interested in seeing that world again, and seeing what Peter Jackson’s done, how he’s made use of the improvements in special effects and cameras and the different way of shooting, which will probably enhance the visual aspect of the experience, the sound also. And I’m interested in seeing how he’s managed to make three movies out of a relatively slim volume…Jackson is a clever person – I’m sure he’ll have done something really interesting with it.”

We’ve already heard two full tracks from Hans Zimmer’s score for Man of Steel, and thus far me likey a lot. Now you can get an even better impression of the Zimmer’s audio vision (see what I did there?) with these 90-second snippets of the entire album.

Want to attend the world premiere for Disney’s The Lone Ranger? Well you can get yourself a ticket. They only go for a cool $1000 each. Now before you accuse the House of Mouse of being high-ho-silver for asking such a ridiculous amount, the funds collected from ticket sales are intended for the American Indian College Fund.

If you’ve ever wondered what Bane would like dressed in garish, kitschy sunglasses and tight, sparkly pants, then you may just need professional help. You may also just get your questions answered. It’s being reported that director Micheal Gracey might just be thinking of Tom Hardy for the lead role in his Elton John biopic, Rocketman. At this point, no formal offer has been made, but it would certainly prove to be a very interesting casting choice.

Hey, if Jason Bourne can snog Gordon Gecko to rave reviews, then Bane can certainly glam it up behind a piano!

Looks like these getting a little under the collar, as well behind, on top of and generally in any close proximity to the collar in these new character posters for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s apocalyptic comedy This Is the End.

I love how everybody is still billed as themselves.

She’s mostly known for boiling bunnies and skinning puppies, so I guess it’s time for Glenn Close to get a little heroic. The acclaimed Oscar winning actress has apparently been cast in Marvel’s upcoming sci-fi superhero adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy, as the head of the intergalactic space cops, the Nova Corps, that will act as the closest thing to Samuel L Jackon’s Nick Fury in the movie. In the comics the Nova Corps head is the alien Rhomann Dey, who John C. Reilly will be playing in the film, but as a human liaison between the Guardians and Earth peacekeeping force, S.H.I.E.L.D.

Not much else is known about Close’s role, but you certainly can’t accuse Marvel of being timid in their casting choices.

Now that Arnie 2.0 – a bit slower and stiffer than the older model, but still as badass – has officially been established, the ex-Governator is currently busy reviving his most iconic roles with Terminator 5, The Legend of Conan and Triplets, and gave an update on just far along they all were.

“We’re writing it now. There are three projects being written that involve me. One is Terminator 5, the other is a Conan movie that Universal is doing and there’s the sequel to Twins, which is called Triplets. We’ll all look quite different in that. The third triplet is Eddie Murphy, so figure that one out.”

Out of nowhere like a jumping jack flash, Whoopi Goldberg, has just been spotted on the set of director Jonathan Liebesmann and producer Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles. There’s been no official announcement that she’s joined the cast, so we have no idea what role she and her co-starring wig will play.

So there’s a new Fast and Furious movie out, if you hadn’t noticed, and this sixth adventure builds off quite a bit of the plot threads from earlier films. But what if you haven’t seen the the first five movies, can you still enjoy this one? Well, yes, because last time I checked, fighting a tank on a highway doesn’t need a backstory to be cool. But if you really are a stickler for details, but just don’t have the time to sit through about 10 hours of Vin Diesel’s “acting”, then I got some good news for you. As Michael over at Jalopnik has already done just that – with some help from a bottle of tequila – and wants to tell you about it.

Oh hey, would you look at that. Seems our tanks are running a little low on nightmare fuel. Not to worry though, this clip that imagines what celebrities would look like if their faces were mashed together should fill you right back up again!
