We kick today’s programming off with a bang as the first TV spot for Dan Bradley’s long delayed Red Dawn remake has just been released. And it’s very explodey. This must be what Michael Bay’s wet dreams are like.
According to Russian movie news site StarkIndustries.ru, Fox Russia has confirmed that The Wolverine will be released in 3D. Hands up anybody that was surprised by this? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
The first trailer to the troubled and delayed zombie apocalypse flick, World War Z , is set to release later in the week, but if you can’t wait that long and prefer to pretend that we’re still living in the 1950’s and that words will replace visuals, then head on over to ShockTillYouDrop where they have a written description of the trailer.
Director Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen has just won the first skirmish in the “2013 White House Under Attack Movie Battle”. FilmDistrict have revealed that the film will be releasing 5 April 2013, nearly a full 3 months before director Roland Emmerich’s White House Down. Both films see a Secret Service agent having to protect the president during a hostile takeover of the White House by terrorists, with Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart doing the agent\president combo in Olympus while Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx are doing the same over in White House Down.
There is some other news for White House Down though, besides just losing scheduling battles that is, as the first released behind the scenes pic of the film has given us our first look at Jamie Foxx as Malcolm X the President of the United States of America. He’s flanked on either side by director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter James Vanderbilt.
The Hole and Marley and Me star Hayley Bennett has signed up to play the lead in Donkey Punch director Oliver Blackburn’s new suspense thriller, Kristy. The film will see Bennett as the titular young college student, who “is alone on campus over the Thanksgiving break when a random encounter with a gang of violent outcasts leads them to target her as their next victim. To survive, she must conquer her deepest fears to outwit them and fight back.”
Bennett will soon also be seen the still-unnamed Terence Mallick film previously known as Lawless.
THR is reporting that Radar Pictures wants to make a feature film based on The Magic Castle, the more than a century old, private Hollywood nightclub that serves as the clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts. It’s unclear what approach the film narrative will take, but here’s a blurb from the club’s official site that provides more info on it:
The Magic Castle is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc, a very special organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. Here’s a new image from comedy anthology Movie 43 which features Gerard Butler as a violent, pistol packing leprechaun. Man, this movie simply can’t get here quickly enough.
Being All Hallows Eve and all, if you want to get yourself into the mood for the witching hour tonight, then you can head on over to Movies.com, where they’ve rounded up 7 Spooky Short Films from a Century of Horror Cinema.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros have picked Somacell, a sci-fi thriller script from debut screenwriter Ashleigh Powell, which will be produced by Dark Knight and Man of Steel co-writer David S. Goyer. The tale “chronicles a female prison guard in the near future who discovers that the virtual reality process that rehabilitates convicts is not all it promises to be.”
Fast and Furious franchise director Justin Lin will be producing and probably directing Subdivision, a new sci-fi comedy script from Tucker and Dale vs Evil writer Morgan Jurgensen and Alex Ankeles. As to what the film is actually about, well that is being kept under lock and key, but a quick Wiki search on the title hints that it could potentially be about anything from maths graphs to an episode of “Prison Break”. Go, Michael Schofield!
There’s a lovely new poster for the Anthony Hopkins starring Alfred Hitchcock biopic, Hitchcock, which does a great job of emphasising Helen Mirren’s rather important role as the acclaimed director’s wife, Alma Reville.
For those of who who haven’t been able to tear you eyeballs aways from the latest Gangnam Style music video, you may not have heard, but there’s a rather serious storm ravaging the USA right now. It’s rather frightening, with wide scale flooding, building destruction and 65 people already officially declared dead. And now superstorm Sandy has also claimed it’s first movie related casualty.
The HMS Bounty, a replica of the infamous 18th century ship whose crew mutinied in 1789, which was used in Mutiny on the Bounty (the 1960 film chronicling those events), Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest has been overwhelmed by the storm, 90-miles off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
CNN is reporting that “fighting waves towering 18 feet high, and winds of 40 mph, the crew from the HMS Bounty boarded two lifeboats, hoping for rescue as soon as possible.” Two US Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters have been braving the horrific conditions to rescue the 14 seamen, however 2 are still missing, presumably in a separate lifeboat.
And I know that our sister site, Lazygamer.net, already posted this earlier this morning, but this new live-action trailer for highly anticipated videogame “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” is directed by Guy Ritchie and features Robert Downey Jr, so I think we have just as much right to post it. So there.
