Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

When it comes to the best film of 2012 for me, that decision will be an incredibly difficult one, as there were quite a few that I really enjoyed (and still need to see). When it comes to the worst film of 2012 though, it’s a lot easier: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. No doubt. I awarded it a half star simply because, yes, it is indeed a film where people do things in front of a camera.

If for some reason you enjoyed it though, then you might find these newly released deleted scenes interesting. And even if you hated it like me, you’ll certainly get some enjoyment out of a pre-VFX painted face Nic Cage, with glow-sticks wrapped around his head, bringing that special brand of crazy like only Nic Cage can. Skip to 01:39 and 07:15 for the best parts.

Almost Famous (the movie, not his social status) director Cameron Crowe is looking to adapt Beautiful Boy, the memoirs of award winning reporter David Sheff which documents his son’s struggles with drugs. Sheff took the title of the book from a song by John Lennon, whom he interviewed just before his assassination, and who would influence Sheff’s relationship with his son.

He’s soon going to be taking us to Channing Tatum’s high school reunion in 10 Years, and after that writer-director Jamie Linden wants to book you a seat on The Flight Before Christmas. Not much is know about the comedy except that it involves a family getting who have to cope with a hellish Christmas Eve flight. Hilarity, I’m guessing, ensues.

Hey, look! It’s a photo of some giant chess pieces in a field of flowers! Oh wait, no, those are actually set pics of the Bourne Wood set for Thor: The Dark World.

Keanu Reeves is over at Collider talking about, well, everything: His digital vs film documentary, Side-By-Side; his directorial debut on the martial arts flick, Man of Tai-Chi, the long in development samurai film 47 Ronin, the progress on Bill and Ted 3, and what actually happened at the end of Lost.

OK, so one of those might not actually be true, but Reeves does give a pretty in-depth and extremely interesting interview.

Nick Cave, he of The Bad Seeds and screenwriter of John Hillcoat’s upcoming Prohibition-Era crime drama, Lawless, spoke to Guardian about how he adapted this true story of the ultra violent, bootlegging Bondurant brothers to the screen.

“It’s not so much a true story as a true myth.”

“In my original draft of the script, the opening scene culminated with a pig having its throat cut. It was bloody and shocking and it kind of signalled what was to come, but they discovered you just can’t pull a pig’s snout back without it going crazy. This is the kind of stuff that film-making teaches you.”

Here’s a first look at Leonardo DiCaprio in character on the set of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Or at least that’s what Collider says. To me it’s just Leo in a suit with lunch in his hand.

The Real Story Behind Stan Lee’s Marvelous Nude Centrefold. I’m not even going to try and add anything wittty here, because if that headline doesn’t hook you, nothing will.

Keeping things Stan Lee related, but luckily not involving his naked anatomy, the famous comic book man was in attendance at this past weekend’s Toronto Fan Expo where he revealed that his favourite Marvel superhero movie is none other than The Avengers. However, he didn’t have that much praise for the movies that were done by other studios before Marvel started making their own films:

“I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn’t like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in Fantastic Four. Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That’s not the way I wrote him. I think they’re working on a new Daredevil movie and it will be better, so hold your judgment until then.”

Looks like Stan The Man needs to take time out of his busy schedule of making cameo appearances to catch up with some news as that new Daredevil film is currently dead in the water.

Robert Redford was supposed to be shopping for a distributor for at upcoming film festivals for his latest directorial effort, The Company You Keep, but it looks like the filmmaking veteran has already sealed the deal. THR is reporting that Redford has already signed a deal with Sony Pictures for the film, which sees him as “a former Weather Underground militant who is wanted for bank robbery and murder. After hiding for three decades, he’s exposed by an aggressive young reporter”.

That young reporter will be played by Shia LeBeouf, who is joined by one of the best casts around: Julie Christie, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson,Terence Howard, Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick, Stanely Tucci, Nick Nolte, Brit Marling, Chris Cooper and Susan Sarandon.

Here’s the teaser trailer for the first of two Alfred Hitchock biopics that soon set to be released. This one is for HBO’s The Girl which stars veteran actor Toby Jones in the role of the Master of Suspense with Sienna Miller as actress Tippi Hedren, and focuses on the relationship between the two.

Remakes are all the rage lately. All the cool kids are doing it. Unfortunately, just as it was in high school, most of the time the cool kids turn out to be horrid little gits. Which is why JoBlo is looking at 10 Awful Re-Imagined Movie CharactersWhatever you do today, read this article. Not only because it’s mostly true but rather because the final line in the list is possibly the funniest thing I’ve read this year.

What’s that? You’re going to have to speak up. I can’t hear you over the sound of all the milking of the Star Wars franchise that George Lucas is doing! Well, at least all that lactose gathering occasionally produces some ice cream among all the sour milk. Or Something. Man, I really lost that metaphor.

Anyway, a new officially sanctioned Star Wars animated series has been announced, only this time it will be Robot Chicken alums Seth Green and Matt Senreich and director Todd Grimes who will be taking you for a bit of a detour. Star Wars: Detours, to be exact.

“Star Wars Detours” is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, “Star Wars Detours” focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Welcome to “Star Wars: Detours”: the other side of the stars, between the wars.”

Here’s the first hilarious trailer for the series, and you can head on over to ComingSoon.net for a couple more clips:
