Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

We kick off today with this new clip from Asian sword and sandal epic, Sacrifice,  the new film from Chen Kaige. The film is an adaptation of the classic play Orphan of Zhao, and tells of a young doctor who secretly raises an orphaned prince as his own, after the boy’s entire clan is wiped out by a rival general. But the doctor manipulates events to allow the boy a chance at revenge, by having the very General that wiped out his family be his god-father. But as the boy gets to know the General his allegiance is torn between these two father figures.

None of which is actually present in this clip, but it does have some great swordfighting though.

This is pretty much a moot point at this stage, but The Expendables 2 has now officially been rated R.

As good as that Man of Steel teaser trailer was, some people still wanted more. If you’re wondering “More what?”, then you’re in luck as Hitfix has made a list. Reading through that list, I actually disagree with quite a few of their gripes. It sounds like they just wanted to watch the old trailer to Richard Donner’s Superman again.

Alex Pettyfer, whose abs and butt cheeks are currently on display in Magic Mike, will be joining Kristen Stewart for his next flick, the Michael Diliberti penned thriller Cali. He will play the boyfriend of Stewart’s character, who fakes her death in a snuff film to run away, only to have to “rise from the grave” again to help her troubled sister out of a mess.

Oh how far the mighty have fallen. Martin Scorsese is now making Apple iPhone ads. C’mon, Marty, What’re you doing? You really don’t need the money.

MTV caught up with Sharlto Copley and spoke to him briefly about his upcoming role as the villain in Spike Lee’s Old Boy remake, which will now see Josh Brolin in the lead role..

“They’ve been very true to the spirit of it. It’s dark, it’s gritty. They’re not sort of softening it, which to me was important. And I’m very excited about that movie. I’m very excited about working with Spike and with Josh. I think it’s going to be a film that is really worth redoing and make that idea that is such an unbelievable story accessible to maybe more people than it was originally.

Look, I just can’t wait for Liam Neeson to start punching Eastern Europe in the throat again in Taken 2, but even the staunchest fans probably had moment of pause when they first learned that they were making a sequel. I’m sure a couple “How the…?”‘s popped up as well. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Liam Neeson thought the exact same thing.

“The first one for me was just a one-off. It was a huge hit, but I thought ‘That’s it.’ Then Luc Besson came back and said, ‘We want to do a sequel.’ I said, ‘Come on, how can you possibly do a sequel? What, she gets taken again? It’s crazy!’”

The “she” is of course Maggie Grace’s character, Kim, who it turns out is the only one not being taken, as Neeson’s Bryan Mills and her mother, Lenore (Famke Janssen), get kidnapped instead.

“I’m able to, in a very covert way, instruct her to find out where I am being held because a sack’s been put over my head and I’m in the middle of a f*cking dungeon!” It’s highly impossible yet equally possible.”

Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is the greatest sci-fi film ever made. This is a fact (in my head). And if you’re one of those people that think it long and boring, and are also wrong, well then this is just for you. Film School Rejects  have gone and created a new trailer for the film, cut as if it was a modern high-octane blockbuster.

Paul Giamatti and Jason Schwartzman will be joining the cast of Walt Disney movie Saving Mr Banks. And just to be clear, that’s Walt Disney the person not the company.

For many people The Dark Knight Rises is the biggest movie of the year. How big, you ask? How about 150ft. That’s how big this new promo piece – HAND PAINTED on the side of a building! – for the film in New York city is. My mind boggles at how that is even possible. Well, at least until I clicked this link which shows exactly how they pulled off this feat:

Did you know that Bane masks make any villain look scarier? No really, they do!

“SHLEEPT FEH WEG!”

We end today on a bit of a gem. Using scenes from Office Space and The Matrix, Youtube user  has created one of the finest mash-up videos I’ve ever seen. If you’ve seen either film, you will most definitely get a kick out of this.
