Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I love Screenrant’s Honest Trailers series, and their latest entry is an instant classic, as they take apart Marvel’s mega-smash hit The Avengers. Yes, that’s right fellow Whedonites, they actually find quite a bit to make fun of. In fact, there’s one brilliant observation about earpieces that will have you scouring your copy of the film tonight.

James McAvoy is apparently very f—ing excited about his upcoming British gangster flick, Welcome to the Punch. Hey, sorry about the cursing, but he started it!

“The script didn’t feel like it had the humility and humbleness of a British film. Don’t get me wrong – I love British film and I love gritty, British drama. But we’re not trying to go, ‘This is the real world.’ We’re going, ‘Here’s a fuckin’ rip-roaring, really emotionally powerful piece of entertainment,’ you know?”

I’m not sure what Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel is going to be about, but I’m hoping that it involves lots and lots of murders. Why else would he cast Angela Langsbury, the greatest snooping busybody amateur detective since Sherlock Holmes? (PS: If you under 30 yrs of age, the previous sentence may not make much sense.)

If there was ever any evidence that the proposed new Baywatch feature film reboot won’t be taking itself very seriously, it’s this: Reno! 911 creator and star Robert Ben Garant (aka Deputy Travis Junior) has joined the project as the director. Garant is actually the screenwriter behind the Night at the Museum series, but he won’t be penning this film but rather working off a script from Peter (Analyze This, Analyze That) Tolan.

You’ve seen (and spat at) Joel Kinnaman in his Robocop costume, now you can check him in his Alex Murphy costume….. Which looks just like Joel Kinnaman in jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket. Exciting.

Academy Award winning Avatar production designer turned Maleficent director Robert Stromberg will be joining Hydra for his next directorial project. No, he’s not joining the Marvel Comics terrorist society, but rather the production company, who already have a project lined up for him in the form of adventure pic Safari, which is billed as “a mash-up of Avatar and Jurassic Park.”

So blue dinos then?

We loved Benh Zeitlin’s Beast of the Southern Wild around these parts, and it looks like for his next effort, the director will be keeping things just as  fantastical. Speaking to the Associated Press, he revealed he wants to reunite with his Beast cast and crew for a “Louisiana-made fable about a hidden ecosystem where the aging process is ‘out of whack’ and people can age quickly or very slowly.”

It’s finally been confirmed that the Farrelly Bros’ Dumb and Dumber sequel will officially be titled Dumb and Dumber To. No, that’s not a typo. The news broke via the writer/director duo’s  twitter feed when they provided an update on the film’s progress:

“You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To script. I think you’re going to like it.”

Here’s the first look at Lost hottie Evangeline Lily’s elf warrior Tauriel in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. As you may recall, director Peter Jackson took a bit of flak from the Tolkien purists as the character Tauriel never existed in the author’s works and was created especially for the movie.

Inglourious Basterds star Daniel Brühl will be joining the already impressive cast of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe in an adaptation of the John Le Carre espionage novel, A Most Wanted Man. Anton “The American” Corbijn will be helming the ensemble cast thriller, about a half-Russian, half-Chechen immigrant, the victim of mysterious torture, who shows up in Hamburg to lay claim to his father’s fortune, prompting German and US intelligence services to investigate whether he’s just a poorly mistreated prodigal son or a religious extremists with deadly goals.

She might be playing an ass-kicking goddess in Thor: The Dark World, but Jaime Alexander got a stark reminder of her mortality when she suffered an as yet unidentified “horrible injury” on set while filming in London yesterday. The statuesque actress, who plays Lady Sif in the Marvel sequel, broke the news via her Twitter feed yesterday morning:

“Today I sustained a pretty horrible injury. I’m lucky I’m not paralysed. Thank you (with all of my heart) to those who’ve looked after me.”

“Already in recovery mode and my spirits are high. I’ll be back kicking ass as Lady Sif in no time! It can only get better from here on out.”

She then provided an update on her status last night:

“Received great news today! Meds are kicking in. Awesome funny nurses here at the hospital. Physio tomorrow. All good.”

Hopefully, the injury is not serious enough to hinder her role in the film, as it was looking as if she would have had a much more expanded role than the first film.

And to end off today, here’s the plot synopsis and new posters for Identity Theft, the new comedy from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon, which introduces us to the two main characters played by Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy.

Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads “Sandy Bigelow Patterson”… and it belongs to an accounts rep (Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S.

With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.
