Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Despite his worldwide popularity, I’ve never really drank the Zack Galifianakis kool-aid. There’s a fine line between being annoying for laughs and actually being annoying, and  he’s often bumbling right over it. That being said though, his far too infrequent web talk show “Between Two Ferns” is comedy gold, and the latest special Oscar Buzz edition has to be the funniest yet.

Okay, I really need to rewatch Darren Aranofsky’s Black Swan after checking out Cinematic Corner’s list of 48 Images Hidden in Black Swan. Way to make me paranoid guys. Now I’m going to be seeing Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis whenever I close my eyes. Okay, so that may already be happening, but this time they’re going to be creepy.

Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does is apparently make us wait really long for trailers. But apparently we won’t have that much longer to wait anymore, as director James Mangold has revealed that the first teaser trailer will be playing in front of G.I. Joe: Retaliation which releases on March 29.

Mangold also took to Twitter to address all the folks that have been upset by the long wait.

“Tell me you think we’re lame after you see the teaser,” he wrote last night. “At least then you will be critiquing images from the film, not a marketing window… From end of March till release, you’ll be saturated. Relax, yuk. I’ve never found the coolest people are the first to arrive at a party.”

Did I say address? I meant verbally smack down1

Speaking of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, a new TV spot has been released for the film which sees The Rock rocking and ninjas ninjaing.

Jennifer Aniston has joined the cast of the Owen Wilson dramedy, She’s Funny That Way, which is ironic, becasue as Aniston’s post-Friends career evidences, she actually isn’t. Wilson will play a Broadway director who falls in love with an ex-prostitute and then tries to help her realize her acting dreams. If you were thinking that this may be Aniston’s Pretty Woman moment, then I hate to burst your bubble, that role belongs to Brie Larson, while Aniston will actually be playing a therapist with an alcoholic mother in rehab. I am assured that despite appearances, those are actually not the blurbs for two separate movies.

Going from mutant to zombie to giant slayer, Nicholas Hoult continues his quest to become a diverse Hollywood leading man. He has landed the lead role in director Rupert Wyatt’s WWI drama Birdsong. After Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this is going to be quite the tonal shift for Wyatt, especially considering how well that film was received.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Sebastian Faulks which “spans three generations and centers on a young Englishman who strikes up a love affair with a French woman and then enters the war.”

If you were as impressed as I was with the insane level of detail and authenticity that Ben Affleck brought to Argo – and no I’m not just talking about the epic beards and moustaches – then you would probably enjoy reading THR’s informative article “The Painstaking Work of Making Argo Authentic”.

Just to prove that is really no justice in this world, just days after winning a BAFTA, Rhythm and Hues, the FX company responsible for the jaw dropping visual effects work on Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, has filed for bankruptcy.

After movies like Martyrs and High Tension the French horror movie scene built a name for itself on hard hitting pieces of cinema. If this Red-Band trailer for Dead Shadows is any indication though, then this latest Gallic horror flick is definitely a piece of something, but I don’t cinema is the word I use.

I will give them props for disliking Justin Bieber and also throwing a penis confusing topless mutant spider lady.

Jessica Alba is apparently in final negotiations to star in Weightless, the feature film directing debut for Monster’s Ball writer Milo Addica. Set in the near future, the film will see Alba as “a female astronaut who causes a fatal motorcycle accident. She then flees the scene of the collision so as to not lose her spot on the space shuttle’s next flight.”

Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse than One Direction, it’s been revealed that 90’s boy band, Backstreet Boys, have apparently given permission for a new tell-all documentary to be made. You hear that Darryn? You can put those posters back on your bedroom wall now, and feel marginally less shame now.

Despite the fact that I found Bachelorette to be a poor man’s Bridesmaids filled with characters about as likeable as the gum stuck under your shoe on a sweltering day, I still think Lizzy Caplan is awesome. That awesomeness is put on full display in this new short, titled Fashion Film, which plays out like a fashion ad, but is actually making fun of fashion ads.
