Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

While many fans have been screaming for a Halo live action film for ages, and there’s been some interest from a blockbuster director, it doesn’t look likely any time soon. Doesn’t mean that we won’t be getting a film at all though. Hero Complex is reporting that the soon to be released Halo: Forward Unto Dawn 5-part web series, which builds up to the release of Halo 4, the latest chapter in the video game saga, will be collected along with extra footage into a 90 minute feature film to be released on DVD and Blu Ray.

Here’s the teaser trailer for Halo: Forward Unto Dawn.

Cracked has drawn up this fun list of 20 Prequel Movies Too Awesome To Exist. The Adventures of Inigo Montoya…. That’s all I really need to to say here.

Did you know that your brand new HD TV is probably ruining the look of your favourite movies?

Lindsay Lohan is in talks for one of the lead roles in Scary Movie 5. Contrary to popular belief this will be a real movie, and not just a video of Li-Lo getting out of a car without any underwear on.

As if those people checking out The Dark Knight Rises at IMAX are not lucky enough, the oversized cinema chain will also be handing out these creepy-cool Bane posters for those that attend the midnight screenings.

Russel Crowe’s reimagined Dracula film, Harker, which sees Jonathan Harker no longer as a laywer but rather a Scotland Yard detective investigating a series of grisly murders (Spoiler: Dracula did it), will be seeing a change in directors. Jaume Collet-Serra has his hands full directing Liam Neeson beating some other corner of the world in Nonstop, and since Warner Bros want to fast track the film, the directorial reigns have been handed over to Eli Roth, who hasn’t directed a feature film since his torture porn Hostel II. There’s no word yet on who will be on Crowcula’s trail as Harker.

Joel Kinnaman spoke to Collider about Easy Money aka Snabba Cash, the Daniel (Safe House) Espinosa directed Swedish crime thriller being brought to the US by none other than Martin Scorcese. He also spoke about his upcoming Robocop reboot:

” It’s a re-imagining.  There are ideas from the first movie that have been remade in the second one, but it’s a completely new take on it.  We have a fantastic director, Jose Padilha, who reminds me of Daniel Espinosa, in some ways.  He’s a very confident, bold director.  He wrote, directed and produced Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2, which he also distributed.  They’re the two highest-grossing films in Brazil, which is an audience of 150 million people.  You need that kind of a strong force in a director that’s going to do his first movie with a big studio.  You need a person that can stand his ground on certain things, and know which battles are worth fighting and where you compromise.  If you’ve seen his movies, you know that he’s a very talented actor’s director.  The acting is superb in his films, and the action is very, very believable.  He also has a history of being a physicist.  His knowledge of where robotics and neuroscience is now is a complete understanding of where the cutting edge is.  He’s working with the writers on a plausible version of 2041, and that’s going to be very interesting.  The core of it will be something of substance, and then you have the fireworks around it.”

This video below has Michael Caine doing a Michael Caine impersonation. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

The live action adaptation of Sony’s God of War video game is just one of many that’s been stuck in development hell for years now. Back in 2008 Brett Ratner was attached to direct, which is a concept I find about as favourable as a venereal disease, but since then there has been nothing. But THR is reporting that the project is now being resurrected by Universeal and that Saw scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan have been tasked to pen a screenplay.

In anticipation for The Dark Knight Rises, Joblo has been doing a run down of various Batman related movies. This week’s choice though, is a crazy one: Hardcore porno movie Batbabe: The Dark Nightie. While we normally don’t advocate porn films around these parts (well, not professionally), I advise you to go read their hilarious write-up. As a teaser here’s their laugh-out-loud funny video roundup of some of the “best” moments in the film. Don’t worry, it’s only mildly NSFW due to some strong language and some sexual innuendo, but no nudity or explicit content.

Keeping things Batman, if you click this link to Empire right now, you can listen to Hans Zimmer’s ENTIRE soundtrack to The Dark Knight Rises. Seriously, why are you still reading this? Click the link!

Darren Aronsky’s Noah is always being labelled as a “biblical epic”, even by us at times, but just how true to the story found in the Bible will this movie actually be? According  to Movies.com’s look at the graphic novel adaptation that Aranofsky did, the answer is not very close at all.

“His name is Noah. Far from the stereotype of the patriarch that one appends the character of the Bible, he looked like a warrior. He looks like a Mad Max out of the depths of time. In the world of Noah, pity has no place. He lives with his wife and three children in a land barren and hostile, in the grip of severe drought. A world marked by violence and barbarism, delivered to the savagery of the clans that draw their reason to survive from war and cruelty.

But Noah is like no other. This is a fighter and also a healer. He is subject to visions which announce the imminent end of the earth, swallowed by the waves of an endless deluge. Noah must notify his followers. If man is to survive, he must end the suffering inflicted on the planet and “treat the world with mercy”. However, no one is listening.

The tyrant Akkad, who Noah went to visit in the city of Bal-llim, chased him and sentenced him to flee. After consulting with his grandfather Methuselah, Noah decided to rally to his cause the terrible Giants and accomplish the task entrusted to him by the Creator…”

Look, I know I dozed off quite a few times back in Sunday School, but surely I would have remembered a badass Noah kicking the butts of six-armed giants in a post apocalyptic wasteland.

I know that this is really only tangentially related to movies, but hey we love Star Wars around here and we also love HBO’s Game of Thrones. There’s no way that it could be anything but awesome when the two meet.

While we’ve had the unfortunate task of saying goodbye to a couple of cinema legends over the last few weeks, today’s legendary farewell is luckily of the “living” variety. Peter O’Toole, most famously known for his title role in Lawrence of Arabia, has announced his official retirement from acting, just one week before his 80th birthday.

“I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell.”

According to reports from Twitch Film and Film School Rejects, auteur directer Wes Anderson’s followup to Moonrise Kingdom will be a “Euro movie”, whatever that may be, and he is eyeballing a pretty high profile cast including “Johnny Depp, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury”.

Yes, Angela Lansbury. Wes Anderson don’t play, yo.

And in closing today, I give the cutest most badass thing you’ll see all week: IRON BABY!

Neat, the Noah plotline sounds good. But what I find more interesting is how everyone laments the awfulness of video game movies. Yet everyone seems to want a movie for Halo – which has a plot more drawn-out and convoluted than a Blizzard game.

Has anyone stopped and thought that a Halo movie might be a very bad idea?

I actually think Eli Roth would make a pretty cool Dracula himself. If it happens, I called it! Maybe he can get Peaches to have a cameo in it? Yes.
