In the Venn Diagram of fandom, this video from Jonason Pauley and Jesse Perrotta would sit perfectly in the intersection of “Way too much time” and “Way too much talent”. The duo have gone and recreated Toy Story – Yes, the entire bloody film! – scene for scene, as a live action film. Craziness.
Russian director and tongue twister Timur Bekmambetov will be joining with producer Michael Bay (who’s just like his alter ego, director Michael Bay, but with less explosions) for the long in development action flick Heatseekers. Announced way back in 2010, when Paramount picked up George Mahaffey’s original spec script, it was said back then to be about a pilot who infiltrates a group of air pirates, and joins them on their most daring heist. F. Scott Frazier will now be taking another crack at the script, and this time the official blurb gets a lot less detailed, saying just it’s about “an ex-military pilot who takes on a group of aerial pirates.”
Easily my most anticipated film of the year that does not involve people in capes, spandex or billion dollar metal suits, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, has finally got a release date of October 4th, 2013. George Clooney and Sandra Bullock star as a veteran and newbie astronaut who get stranded in space, tethered only to each other, after a routine spacewalk on a shuttle mission goes wrong.
If you thought the gobsmacking single take tracking shots in Cuaron’s Children of Men was good, the director has upped the ante again with Gravity apparently featuring a 17 minute long unbroken opening shot.
This is the true face of James Bond. i09 have gone and taken the face of every actor to ever portray agent 007 on screen and morphed them into one to create this Mega-Bond-Zord!
Earlier today we reported on how the fact that Jack Reacher has made nearly triple its money back already in about a month, even before it’s opened in Asia, was not enough to convince Paramount to make a sequel. Clearly, MGM have much lower standards than Paramount. THR reports that the studio has begun talks with director Steve Pink for a sequel to his 2009 comedy, Hot Tub Time Machine. A movie that after all the pennies had been counted made $64 million worldwide on a $36 million budget. Thus far, stars Rob Cordry (who may end up co-writing the script with Pink), Clark Duke and Craig Robinson are all already on board, but lead John Cusack is eerily absent. Maybe he’s too busy playing Peter Gabriel songs outside some girl’s bedroom window.
British hard man (not that kind of hard, you perverts) Jason Statham will soon be seen doing what he does best in the Sylvester Stallone penned Homefront.Statham spoke to Collider about how honoured he was to receive the role.
“Homefront is a film that Sylvester Stallone wrote for himself actually. So, to have a screenplay presented to me by him that he was intending to star in himself was a career point for me. I said, “Wow!” He’s a great writer and it’s a really, really cool story. It’s based on a book written by Chuck Logan called Homefront. He adapted it to suit me. It was like a tailor-made suit and Sly did all the sewing. Fantastic!”
Adapted it to suit Statham? So more kicking then?
Statham also addressed the water-cooler talk that Jackie Chan may be joining him, Stallone and friends for Expendables 3.
“I should never go with rumors because they’re often not correct, but I hear Jackie Chan might be coming to the party and that would make me very happy because I do like Jackie Chan.”
“I like Jackie because I’ve been a friend of Jackie’s forever. He’s broken every bone in his body for his commitment and dedication to doing his own stunts. So he’s the real deal. He is the real deal. He’s my [favorite].”
Machete may not text, but he sure does kill, and he’ll be doing so on September 13, 2013. The Robert Rodriquez written/directed sequel, Machete Kills, will be opening against Stuart Beattie’s I, Frankenstein as well as Battle of the Year, some break dancing movie that none of us have ever heard of an-Wait! It stars Josh Holloway? What are you doing, Josh?!
Although some would argue that Arnie was already back (a whole bunch of times) in Expendables 2, it’s actually the upcoming The Last Stand that marks the Governator’s proper return, with his first headlining act since 2003’s T3: Rise of the Machines.ComingSoon.net managed to sit down with Arnie and his co-stars Forrest Whittaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaime Alexander and Rodrigo Santoro, to discuss making the film, as well as Arnie providing some lessons on how to properly pronounce his trademark catch phrases. Yes, Arnold giving pronunciation lessons.
Dumb and Dumber taught me 3 things: Never take a swig from any open bottles in a car, blind kids are suckers and sequels where the original cast and crew aren’t involved usually suck worse than the most annoying sound in the world. Okay, so maybe it was a prequel, but the point still stands. Which is why the fact that both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are on board with original writer-directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, for a proper sequel to the classic comedy is such a big deal.
Peter Farrelly spoke to ComingSoon.net about how far along the script is, when the story is based and how this sequel would compare to the original.
“We have the script and I will say this: I love the script but if I told you about the script, you’d be completely impressed, but if I told you about the first one–‘Well, what’s it about?’ ‘It’s about these two guys that find this briefcase and they follow this girl to Aspen.’ You’d say, ‘Well, where’s the movie?’ It’s not about the plot, it’s about the characters. It’s a really hard movie to explain to people and make them see it, but I guarantee you that it’s sort of exactly like the first one. We pick up from that 20 years later, we explain what they’ve done for the last 17 or 18 years, we take off from that and it’s just a lot of laughs. It’s at Warner Bros. and right now it’s being financed outside the studio, but it will be released by Warner Bros.–knock on wood–and that’s all being worked out right now.”
“If you liked ‘Dumb & Dumber,’ you’ll like this because it’s the same and more. It’s really fun.”
I love the original movie so much, that my excitement levels have even allowed me to overlook the fact that the Farrely’s last film, The Three Stooges, was about as funny as testicular cancer.
While chatting to Buzzfeed about the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and characters Iron Fist and Power Man aka Luke Cage showing up in it, Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb, dropped this little tidbit about the character’s possible cinematic future.
“Just like we just announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we are certainly looking at the Heroes for Hire franchise which is Luke Cage and Iron Fist.”
Sweet Christmas! You may recall that when I last did a round-up of comics that I would love to see turned into movies, I might have had a bit of a thing for Iron Fist.

If you don’t know your 1080p’s from your HFR 3D’s, then chances are you probably also don’t about 4k/8k Ultra HD. Well, you should, because if this year’s CES was any indication, we’re going to be talking about it a whole lot pretty soon. So to avoid just smiling and nodding with a vacant look on your face (oh wait, that’s how you normally look), head over to Gizmodo where they ask and answer “What is Ultra HD?”
Brad Bird (Incredibles, Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) is not too impressed with showbiz media’ latest favourite buzzword.
@BradBirdA113: “Show Biz Press starting to refer to original films as “Franchise starters”, as if every good original is doomed to be redone until it stinks”
This led to questions about whether or not that meant that he wouldn’t be up for doing another Mission Impossible.
@BradBirdA113: “Obviously I have nothing against “franchises”. But I don’t think EVERY hit film needs a sequel.”
And the man makes a point. Sometimes a good story, is just that, a good story, not the first chapter of one.
There was much snubbery afoot with this years Oscar nominations, but giving great films/filmmakers the cold shoulder is definitely not a new thing when it comes the Academy. Which is where this video by Grae Drake, senior editor at Rotten Tomatoes, comes in as she counts down the 10 Biggest Oscar Snubs Ever.
So remember that live-action Toy Story video (which if you have forgotten by now, I hate to break it to you, but you have Alzheimer’s) and how much insane work went into making it? Well, there are people out there that are apparently a whole lot more insane. The Brothers Brick, three siblings from Finland, have gone and made a 146 min long fan film based on popular videogame franchise Castlevania. Oh, did I mention that they did the entire thing with LEGO? And that it took them 7 years?
Like I said, insane.
