Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

I make a point of not recommending anything to you guys unless, I’ve checked it out myself, but today I’m making an exception. See, I’m still 3 seasons short of finishing Breaking Bad (yes, okay, break out the torches and pitchforks), so while I’ve already had one thing spoiled for me, I still don’t know a lot of what’s going to happen in the end. And I’d like to keep it that way, thank you very much. This is why I haven’t personally checked out this Malcolm In The Middle themed alternate ending that Bryan Cranston shot for Breaking Bad, but I have it on good authority – the Internet – that it’s pretty good.

Javier Bardem plays a mean bad guy. Now WB wants him to play a mean bad guy with even meaner facial hair. The studio have apparently offered Bardem the main villainous role of Blackbeard in their recently announced Joe Wright directed, “Batman Begins styled” Peter Pan origin story, which would follow an “an orphan [who] is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against evil pirates.” Said evil pirates being led by Blackbeard, of course.

Along with a villain and story synopsis, the film has now also gained an official title: Pan. Not to be confused with the other Peter Pan story also named Pan being developed by Channing Tatum for Sony, or the Gary Ross directed Peter and the Starcatchers being developed over on the Disney lot. It’s a Pan-demic.

Here’s a new “movie styled” trailer – because apparently that’s a thing now – for JJ Abrams’ new sci-fi TV series, Almost Human.

Looks like Will Smith hasn’t learned his lesson yet of going on long science-fiction-ey trips with one of his kids, as Deadline is reporting that the After Earth star has finally officially signed on for Fox’s City That Sailed. Smith has been informally attached to the project since 2010 already. The film is to be directed by Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum 1 & 2) and penned by Audrey Wells (Under the Tuscan Sun, Shall We Dance? Disney’s The Kid) and follows the story of “a father and daughter on the island of Manhattan as it breaks loose and sails across the Atlantic Ocean.”

I certainly won’t be surprised if said daughter ended up being in the habit of whipping her hair back and forth, hey Big Daddy Smith?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson got all badass on Instagram, when he posted this new pic of himself as Luke Hobbs from the set of Fast & Furious 7Yes, he just referred to himself as the Silverback of the Law, and apparently he wears a bulletproof vest and a handgun to bed.

“I didn’t bring the cavalry.. I AM the cavalry” ~#HobbsTheBeast On set. 4am. High on dirty thoughts & adrenaline as I wait for my director and partner in crime, James Wan (standing deep in the background) to yell “ACTION”. #FastAndFurious7#SilverbackOfTheLaw #ThisIsHowIWalkIntoMyBedroom”

While it did give me a slight case of the chuckles, I wasn’t the biggest fan of oddball cop partner comedy The Heat. Clearly, I was in the minority though, as the Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy starring comedy racked $229 million at the boxoffice off just a $43 million budget. You know that means, right? Sequel. Which is exactly director Paul Feig has in mind. Well, what he would have in mind if it wasn’t for the fact that Sandra Bullock doesn’t want to come back.

So what’s a director to do in a case like this? Why take two actresses from the first movie, whose characters had about 15 minutes of screen time – combined – and give them their own spinoff! According to reports, Feig is developing a new movie based around Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chafin’s characters Beth and Gina, the crass, loudmouth girlfriends of Melissa McCarthy’s Shannon Mullins’ brothers.

Feig previously directed Denbo and Chafin in a pilot for their own comedy show, so he already has a working relationship with them. Now while I found Beth and Gina funny in their scenes, I’m not sure I could a whole movie of them.

The first clip is out for the Keanu Reeves starring samurai fantasy film 47 Ronin, and if you’re not a fan of the sight of blood and/or spiders, then I have some bad news for you.

You may have noticed that Terence Howard got replaced in the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man 2 and 3 (if you didn’t notice, then there’s a fairly good chance that you’re a racist), and the time we were told that it was due to failed contract negotiations. Just what the details are of those failed negotiations are, we’ve never been privy to. Well, until now. And if a rather irate sounding Terence Howard is to be believed, it’s all Robert Downey Jr’s fault.

“It turns out that the person that I helped become Iron Man, when it was time to re-up for the second one, took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out.

“We did a three-picture deal. That means you did the deal ahead of time — a certain amount for the first one, a certain amount for the second, a certain amount for the third. They came to me with the second and said ‘look, we will pay you one-eighth of what we contractually had for you, because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.’ And I called my friend, that I helped get the first job, and he didn’t call me back for three months.”

That’s not every heroic, RDJ.

If you find yourself in desperate need of a good, soul crushing tjank session, then head on over to Pajiba where they’re looking at The 9 Saddest Moments from Kids Movies. *sniff* WHO THE HELL KEEPS CUTTING ALL THESE ONIONS?! *sniff*

It’s been awfully quiet on the Amazing Spider-Man 2 front lately (director Marc Webb must getting bored with trolling us fans), but a handful of new pics for the superhero sequel have just swung into town.

Irrespective of what you may think of Webb’s Spidey-reboot as a whole, there’s no denying that he has a knack for conjuring images that look like they’re pulled straight from the comic book page. Case in point, that fantastic firefighting pic.

And now things are going to get Batty. First up, remember that rumour that Girls star Adam Driver was being considered for the role of Nightwing in Batman vs Superman? Well you would think that if that rumour was true then Adam Driver would know about it, right?

“No. Not that I know of, no. If you find out, let me know, then I’ll know.”

Not that Driver doesn’t appreciate all the fan speculation directed at him for the role.

“That’s like intensely flattering as you can imagine. I mean, it’s Batman and Superman, who doesn’t want to be involved in something not only of that scale but of who those characters are. That’s an incredible world to be able to be in for a bit. Like who wouldn’t want to do that?”

Right. So now that we’ve confirmed Driver’s non-involvement, that puts the Nightwing rumour to bed, right? Wrong. It seems like the original rumour that not only would Batman’s ex-sidekick show up in the movie, but that the former dynamic duo would be estranged now, may actually have some merit to it. Over the weekend, Warner Bros producer Dave Alter tweeted this intriguing message (via Screenrant).

“Can’t wait for .. semi-retired/not speaking to Robin anymore.. Controlling drones from the batcave.”

Drones, you say? Now thus far we’ve been looking almost exclusively at Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns as the muse for this film, but in Mark Waid’s famed alternate future storyline, Kingdom Come, a retired Bruce Wayne actually patrols Gotham from his cave using an army of remote-controlled Bat-Sentries, but eventually comes out of retirement to fight Superman and his superpowered cohorts. And he does it, using an exoskeleton Batman armour. Could this be the suit Kevin Smith saw? Is director Zack Snyder and writer David Goyer drawing inspiration from all the greatest Batman vs Superman moments in comic book history?

Whatever Snyder, Goyer and co’s plans are, it’s still going to be quite some time before we see any video footage of Batman actually taking on Superman…. Or will we? Tim Daly, the voice of Superman in DC’s animated universe, runs a web series with his son Sam Daly, and their latest guest is none other than Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman. Well, guest may be too strong a term. So without further ado, I give you Batman vs Superman!

We’ve heard stories of how Jon Favreau found it increasingly difficult to work with TH and his attitude, and how TH was paid substantially more than RDJ only as a result of him being signed to the picture first. Honestly TH was the worst thing with Iron Man… very poor performance of Rhodey, it’s no wonder there are very few scenes with him in them, let alone memorable ones. They recognised how terrible TH was in Iron Man, and how awesome RDJ was, and decided to pay them both their worth. I’d say that’s a heroic action by RDJ to save us all from a terrible TH War Machine.

ps. that photo of gwen stacy and peter parker says mary jane instead…

Someone tell Terrence Howard the movie is called Iron Man, not Sidekick.

Just watched Almost Human – I think it’s pretty good. The only problem I had was constantly picturing a certain helmet over Karl Urban’s face.
