Everybody knows that video game feature film adaptations are generally terrible. This has become more a fact than opinion, like water being wet or Nick being orange. Assassin’s Creed will hopefully change that though (the video games, I mean. Nothing we can do about Nick). No other video game movie can boast the pedigree of talent that Assassin’s Creed can, as the same directing and acting team that made the incredible Macbeth – Justin Kurzel directing two of the finest actors on this planet in  Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard – steps up to the plate here.

But will it actually be any good? Ask me that on Thursday afternoon when I’ve seen the movie. Till then, here’s a new trailer, that may just be the best preview for the film yet, as it ditches the idiosyncratic music choices and also delves more into the film’s plot, revealing just how closely it actually ties into the game’s narrative by introducing the mythical Apple of Eden.

Check it out below.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed also stars Jeremy Irons, Michael Kenneth Williams and Brendan Gleeson. It is scheduled for release on December 23, 2016.
