Some movies, take forever to see the light of day. Movies such as the Red Dawn reboot and Equilibrium for instance. Take Knight Of Cups as another example, as that film was shot way back in 2012 already. Well good news for the Terrence Malick fans in the house, as it looks like that meta-Hollywood film is finally getting released.
Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?
Sweeping shots, haunting music and introspective voice-overs. Sounds like a Terrence Malick movie to me. Knight Of Cups will be getting a first showing at the Berlin Film Festival in February next year, before it rolls out to a wider release. Besides Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, the film has what appears to be a stellar cast that also includes Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, Brian Dennehy, Isabel Lucas, Imogen Poots, Wes Bentley, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer, Armin Mueller-Stahl and the voice of Ben Kingsley.
That’s a ton of talent. And that’s my arty film quote for the month, complete.
