Are you ready for The Avengers 2.5?! I know that star Chris Evans aka Captain America doesn’t like it if we call it that, but that’s pretty much what Captain America: Civil War shapes up to as a bunch of heroes have to come together and team up to… well, fight some other heroes who have come together and teamed up. Right?

Well, not quite according to BMD‘s Devin Faraci – normally very reliable on these things – who has been hearing some early buzz about the movie from multiple sources, and what he’s been hearing sounds pretty damn great:

What are they saying? That the movie is fully a sequel to The Winter Soldier. I’ve been telling you this for a while, but now that the film is finished it seems to be confirmed – this isn’t Avengers 2.5, but rather Captain America 3, and it truly focuses on Cap and Bucky. I have been told that Spider-Man is great, and that the film doesn’t waste time on retelling his origin. We all get it, and the movie just moves along.

I’ve been told that Black Panther is phenomenal, and that Chadwick Boseman is a major addition to the MCU. This movie picks up the pieces of Avengers: Age of Ultron in surprising and human ways and makes us feel the true cost of Sokovia. And I’ve been told that the last half hour of the film is brutal, both physically and emotionally.

One person told me that the last act plays out as an emotional horror movie because the film gives both Tony and Steve solid reasoning, and because it truly makes you feel the depths of this schism.

Well, damn. Maybe Anthony “Falcon” Mackie’s recent claims about Captain America: Civil War‘s brilliance were not so far-fetched after all?

“‘Winter Solider’ and ‘Iron Man’ 1 are probably Marvel’s two best movies. I feel like this one beats both of those movies. I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for best picture.”

Irrespective of whether Civil War actually garners some awards love or not, the movie looks all kinds of awesome as Captain America and Iron Man lead two respective teams against each other in an ideological – and also very physically punchy – battle for the ages. We’ve already had a couple of awesome trailers showing off this epic heroic tussle, as well as some pics, but with just a couple of months left until the film’s release Marvel are kicking their promo campaign up a gear.

Posted on Marvel’s own site, we get 9 new high-res images that give us a glimpse not only of these characters as they prepare to throw down, but also a look behind the scenes of the massive superhero production. Check them out below.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.
