Despicable Me 3

As far as animated film franchises go, Despicable Me might just be one of the best. Also, it has minions, and everybody loves seeing those guys get up to all manner of wacky hijinks while they converse in that weird gibberish. ANYWAY! Despicable Me is a fantastic franchise for any age, as even my grandma giggles at the antics of those movies.

You’ve got top-notch voice acting, animation that is wonderfully cartoony and some actual heart to bridge the two facets. One thing that the first two Despicable Me movies and its spin-off Minions didn’t have however? Dated 1980s fashion. That’s all going to change in Despicable Me 3 however, as Gru finds himself facing down the power-shoulders of Balthazar Bratt, described as a former child star “driven to supervillainy as a result of the abrupt cancelation of his TV series when he hit puberty.” Yikes.

Here’s the first trailer:

The team who brought you Despicable Me and the biggest animated hits of 2013 and 2015, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, returns to continue the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions.

I’m bad, I’m bad I’m really really bad. Dammit Michael Jackson, you were meant to be a supervillain. Also popping up in this flick? Gru’s long-lost twin brother Dru, “who is exactly like Gru except with hair, and also different in every way,” apparently. Despicable Me 3 looks like its on the right track so far, but the proof will be in the money, as the previous Despicable Me movie raked in over $970 million at the global box office. That’s not too shabby at all, with the rest of the series combined with those numbers accounting for over $2.5 billion so far.

Now that’s a heist. Despicable Me 3 stars the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Trey Parker. It’ll be dropping more Lionel Richie references next year on June 30.
