News on Neill Blomkamp’s second sci-fi film, Elysium, has been very hush-hush and besides a plot synopsis and a few stills of Matt Damon from the film, there is quite a lot we still don’t know but finally, we can put a face to one of the antagonists of the film.
Our very own Sharlto Copley will star as Kruger, a villain from the film who I’m sure will be giving Matt Damon’s “Max” character from the film a hard time. Notice that I say “a villain”, not “the villain” – this would no doubt be because another antagonist of the film would be Secretary Rhodes, played by Jodie Foster. Take a look at the official synopsis:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
I’m definitely getting more and more excited for this film. Sharlto Copley has proven himself as someone to watch and I have a strong suspicion that he will steal the show as a bad guy. In an interview with Copley, he stated that the character is definitely South African, which is definitely going to be fascinating. I wonder if he’s going to say a few Afrikaans lines?
Well, whatever the case, I’m pretty sure that Kruger won’t have anything nice to say as he looks particularly dangerous and I’m positive that he’s really, really angry. I can’t wait to find out why!

Apparently Sharlto’s character is some kind of sword wielding cyborg ninja hobo.

It reminds me of Battlefield Earth, for some reason…
