Gerard Butler in talks to board the POINT BREAK remake

Hey, we’ve gone several days into the new year without spoiling movie nostalgia for anyone here! Man, we must be losing our touch. With that in mind, don’t forget about the eventual remake of Point Break that will be on the way. And more EXTREME than ever, because it just might have a certain Spartan king kicking bank robberies into EXTREME overdrive.

According to Heat Vision, Gerard Butler is now in talks to star in the remake, with an eye on the role of Bodhi, made famous by Patrick Swayze’s performance. The report says that Butler’s Bodhi will be “an expert extreme sports athlete who also seeks to find nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-waves. He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals. The part of Utah is not cast.”

Whoa dude, sounds extreme. If you’re still not convinced about the point of remaking this film, then this synopsis from director Kurt Wimmer most likely will not sell you on the film either. Lacks a certain amount of EXTREME I reckon:

The new version of the film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.

EXTREME!

    See: Triple-X. 😛

The original wasn’t that great a movie though. Apart from its iconic aspect, the movie itself was quite lame. I tried to watch it a few months back and couldn’t get over how weak and cheap it felt.

This could work, but then again the director only made one decent movie with Equalibrium. He also made Ultraviolet. Yeesh.

I’ll be upset when they announce a Back to the Future reboot.

I still enjoy Point Break. It may seem a bit cheesy now, but in its day it really pushed the envelope as far as thrillers go.

Same here. I’ve seen it as recently as last year, and I still think it holds up well.

One of the Baldwins already did this.

    Cut Away

The diamond thieves in this one were skydivers instead of surfers

Same thing goes for the first Fast and the Furious

How many times do they plan to remake the same plot?

It’s going to be hollow crap with plenty of nice shots of skydivers and surfers doing their thing. Ironically the original didn’t indulge too much in the flash of action sports.
