Get ready to be insidiously scared. Again

Horror fans had a field day last year with the horror film Insidious, and much like any good fright film, it’s coming back for a sequel. A profitable venture for director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannel, the ambiguous ending left plenty of room for just such a film to be made, although the people involved claimed that they would only be on board for a sequel if they got a good idea for it.

So guess who had a light bulb go “Ding!” above their heads lately?

Set in an apparently haunted house, one family found out the hard way that it wasn’t their dwelling that was a supernatural magnet, but that they themselves were the spectre bait.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the film will start shooting this year for a 2013 release, and will be distributed by FilmDistrict in the US; Alliance in Canada and Momentum Pictures in the UK; and Sony for everywhere else.

So far Wan and Whannel are in tentative talks to return, although Bloody Disgusting has a statement from Whannel aying that the sequel will see an entire reunion of cast and crew. The statement reads;

Insidious was the most fun project I’ve ever worked on,” he says. “From start to finish it was an absolute joy… James and I both feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film. See you in The Further.

Those are all the details available for now, but we’ll keep you posted on any other developments. And remember, if you’re looking for a good horror film with which to get some chills, do yourself a favour and rent Insidious.

    Yes! YES! I don’t like James Wan’s stuff, but Insidious was bone-chilling. I could have lived without a sequel, but this isn’t bad news.
