The good, the bad and the ugly of the past week – 27 May 2016

Cute snakey

Holy crap, am I round or what? Yesterday, I ate ALL of the birthday cake. I think I’m going to have to run a marathon or five to get back into a shape that actually has corners.

Oh who am I kidding? Let the birthday weekend commence!

Best Stories

First off, I just want to say that I am a completely unbiased journalist. Right, with that out of the way, let’s get started.

First up we have a round up of this very cool looking shooter. What a game – just look at those scores! I bet it has a really cool story too (which will be moving forward in future I’m sure). Hey, it even has some rad swag!

See? I’m not biased at all! Anyways, moving right along, in other good non-Overwatch related news, Uncharted 4 sold 2.7 million copies in its launch week, and Ori and the Blind Forest is headed to retail.

Worst Stories

Holy crap, so much bad news this week! Where do I even begin?

The Gran Turismo Sport’s beta has been binned, and Capcom has banned Team YP. As if that wasn’t horrible enough, news broke that there was a “Final Fantasy Disease” infecting Square Enix. Then there was the Captain America reveal, which pissed fans off big time. And then, there’s this article Al wrote which shows Gabe Newell talking about Half-Life 3 for a depressing 10 years.

Lastly, this. NO GOD PLEASE NO!

Random Stories

Not much random news this week it seems, except for perhaps this new DLC for Goat Simulator. Honestly, it looks amazing!

Oh, and there is this story on how to counter Overwatch’s Bastion I suppose, where Darryn and I speak nonsense for almost ten minutes straight. Seriously, the Omnic ain’t OP – he just needs some good countering.

Is Darryn Batman Forever

Batman Birthday Cake

Screw you Darryn – all I wanted for my birthday was to be Batman, but here you are, on the longest caped crusader streak EVER! It’s ok, we can still be friends. Here, have some of my batcake. On a related note, we have a new metric, that measures weight of articles, to determine how well an author does relative to the number of articles submitted. Were still working out the finer details, but this week, the winner is The Movies’s Tracy!

Header of the Week

No-Mans-Sky-2

Oh No Man’s Sky has been possibly delayed? That’s a darn shame!

Most Comments

Sheesh, give away a Cooler Master Devastator II Gaming Combo, and just like that, everybody starts talking! That article has raked in 115 comments thus far.

Comment of the Week

Seeing as it was my birthday yesterday, I’m hijacking this award for myself. Want to hear a funny joke?

“What did the snake say when it slithered into a rock? JATHITH!”

I can’t even claim credit for that joke. Each time I hear it though, I giggle like mad!

Ok fine, want a real comment of the week? Unavengedavo you monster…

And incase you guys missed me…

SNIFF!

Bonus Premium Content

I’m sure many of you have seen this video, but just in case you haven’t…

Oh, and this one too. I linked it in ION yesterday already, but it’s worth sharing again…

And as usual, we have a dose of WTF from Darryn…

Also I fully expect you to tell me about the cool restaurants, that deliver great value for money. Right? Right?

Or do you only know the pubs? That deliver great value for money for lunch though. Hmm. Toddler allowed in, or not?

So, that is me out of here.

Going to Mossel Bay, Plet Area for the next two and a half weeks. Yay.

will be around, just not as much, going to be doing holiday stuff. I think that means swimming with my daughter, Sea or swimming pool at resort complex places. I somehow feel that is what she will want to do.

Also, I am hoping it is warmer there than here, so that She (royal She, see capital), can play in the water, it gives her SO MUCH joy.

        Thanks, I will.

I have time-share stuffies, so the accommodation is normally petty nice, and completely self-catering. You, Geoff, of all people here, might appreciate this: On holiday I like to cook PROPERLY, take my time, make food I would never make at home, because of time constraints and just general gatvol.

        That is fun too.

We went there of most of the month of June in 2012 and the weather was bad most of the time. Not a crisis. We had no child then. Was easy. We just drove around, looking at everything. The problem with cold and rainy is it stuffs the Sea up. We already have a low chance of seeing Whales this time of year and with cold rainy that chance is 0.

Basically, if a restaurant, anywhere from Mossel Bay to Knynsa, has a proper ocean view, we had tea and coffee there, if nothing else.

Man, when my wife worked we ate out a LOT. Now, a lot less 🙂

Forgot the age of your little one, but can definitely recommend Blasters in Mossel Bay to get rid of pent up energy on rainy day.

The rest you probably know off, Birds of Eden, the Monkey place next to it and the Plettenberg snake park all worth a visit every time.

            2.5 years old.

Blasters is the only thing I do not know of, the rest we have been and plan to see again. I like the Birds of Eden a lot.

When does School holidays start? I thought we missed it all. We come back in the middle of June, 16th.

2.5 might be slightly to young to enjoy Blasters to its full potential but they do have a dedicated toddler play area.

You miss it by a week, 24th June.

I checked out their site quick, I think she will have enough fun, but not for two hours. She enjoys wondering around the toys, counting numbers (she is addicted to numbers for some reason, must read them) and stuff. Thanks, will go there.

ALSO, so glad to have missed the School holidays.

In 2012, at the one resort in Mossel Bay, we went to some meet and greet thing. Everyone else there for holidays had grey hair and was retired or semi-retired. Amusing. And not.

Families flock there in summer and March holidays.

Pretty much everything is fully booked from 1 December to weekend after new year from Stilbaai to Plet and then after that weekend all the resorts run empty almost overnight.

We normally do week and half camp somewhere along the coast (do not like going to same place twice) from before New Year so experience half in holiday craziness and half calm summer coast holiday. But prices are going insane now, R6000 to R11000 to stay in your own tent for 10 days is too rich for my blood so skipping this year.

And by everything I mean they even rent out the gaps between sites and convert rugby fields and grass covered parking areas into temporary camp resorts.

R6k to R11K to stay in a TENT that YOU bring? Bloody hell. Yes. Too rich for my blood too. Last time we camped we paid R150 a day for the site. In Margate. In April, week before easter.

I am privileged enough to own some Timeshare, which helps a lot. It is all paid up and I pay a “management” fee of just less than R10k per year, but we get some good value out of it. Weekends away, a holiday or two away, always in good accommodations. But the start-up cost….. it is not small. My Gran sold her holiday home, more than twenty years ago, and gave us the start-ups for the timeshare. I bought more as years went on, my siblings did not.
