Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently filming, with Thor, Iron Man and Captain America filling out that slate with brand new sequels. They’re recognisable names though, and if you still didn’t know who they were when they first arrived, then the Avengers most likely clued you in on them.

The Guardians of the Galaxy though? That’s an unknown with most audiences, a shot in the dark for Marvel, no matter how much pedigree the film project has on board. Which is why the script is getting another tweak, with a brand new writer.

THR reports that Chris McCoy has been brought in, to give the current script from Nicole Perlman some light-hearted entertainment, which shouldn’t be too difficult, considering that the Guardians of the Galaxy team has a homicidal talking raccoon and the original ugly tree in the team line-up.

As for the team itself, the official roster will include Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon,Groot the tree-man, Star-Lord and Gamora, individuals who are all connected to the big bad from the end of The Avengers, Thanos.

It’s a risky project for Marvel, with GotG, but if they can pull it off, they might have the perfect springboard needed for phase 2, when it combines for the eventual Avengers sequel.

With the film still in the early days, script and screenplay changes now are more a positive than a negative in preparation for principal photography, as the studio is aiming to have this cosmic adventure out in August 2014.
