Halo 3 ships 45 000 units in Japan in 24 hours

I just don’t see Japan ever following the Xbox 360’s worldwide popularity.

While 45 000  is a decent enough take for first day sales it really does pale in comparison to the 2.7 million that were shipped in the US. What I don’t understand however is why does Microsoft keep on punting money into the Japanese market that could be better used else where?

For the same amount of money they could have rolled out Live support to us and most of Eastern Europe and I am pretty sure that they shipped more than 45 000 copies in all of these territories combined.

If Microsoft gives up on Japan, they pretty much concede this console generation to either Sony or Nintendo. Even running at a loss, Microsoft really can’t afford to give up on a gaming region of that proportion.

Furthermore, if I hear one more thing about Live SA from anybody, I think I may just scream. Come on, Lazy, let it lie, please…

It’s the third largest gaming market on the planet, more importantly it’s the home to a lot of very unique developers. Look at Suda, or Clover (RIP), Eternal sonata etc etc. They need to keep up the presence to win mind share.
