Halo 3 To Push Xbox 360 Way Ahead of Wii, PS3

So yet another website which believes that Halo 3 may be the final piece of the puzzle the Xbox 360 needs to win this generations console war. However this one is different since it’s a site dedicated to the PS3…

The launch of Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 is upon us and it is expected that it is going to create a wave of momentum for the Xbox 360 which may allow it to pull way ahead of the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3.

PS3 Center even mentions that Halo 3 may be the greatest game of the last decade, I don’t know about that but it sure is moving the units quickly enough and with the hype that surrounds this game in the US it could possibly put the 360 out of touch in that region.

Hopefully then Microsoft can start sending us the marketing cash instead?

I stopped reading at: “…Halo 3 may be the final piece of the puzzle the Xbox 360 needs to win this generations console war.”

Halo 1 and 2 sure helped the Xbox win the last generation.

@ocelot, if you really did stop reading then you would have missed that this statement came from a PS3 website and that i don’t agree 😉

Also if you disagree please use the rating stars facility…

Halo 3 obviously very popular and it’s release will almost certainly result in a spike in Xbox360 hardware sales. It will be interesting to see whether the PS3 and Wii also see a spike in sales simply because of all the attention that gaming in general is receiving as a result of Halo 3’s release.

There are no killer apps for the PS3 or Wii for 2007, period. Maybe 2008 will see the PS3 deliver its promise and make it drop further in price.

Looking at my friends list tonight (30 online) about 25 were playing Halo3.

This is the first time I have seen so many people playing the same game at one time.

I only had a few minutes play, but will try the MP later in the week.

@Ruslan…did you just inadvertently say that Super Mario Galaxy is not a killer app for the Wii 😀 ? I know the Halo hype is crazy, it really is, in fact, it is so crazy it actually scares me, but are gamers so far gone that we don’t see the power of the little Italian plumber?

Master Chief, believe it or not, is NOT the most recognisable – or most financially succesful – character in all of video gaming.

Oh, and to answer the overarching question of whether or not the 360 will be outta touch…I say: “not likely”, not even in North America. Halo 3 is a push. A big push. Gears of War was a big push, too, but Nintendo has yet to show it’s hand and Sony’s big guns are also still gearing up. As long as the plumber waits in the pipe (hehe 🙂 ) and that Gran Tourismo/Final Fantasy/Metal Gear Solid 4 triple combo of Sony’s in the bag, I won’t call any winners yet.

From a gamers perspective, 360 is my system of choice right now, but seriously, can Microsoft build an entire gaming empire off of two titles – yes, really speaking, Gears and Halo remain all they have (in terms of proven assets)…

@Pillsbury I think we all agree that Sony and Microsoft are not competing against Nintendo anymore, different category of gamers really.

Whether or not this will bury Sony in the US is still to be seen, I doubt it will but if the Halo sales stay strong through Christmas then I don’t see Sony overhauling the 360 in the US in this generation

@abe, and you believe the PS2 userbase will automatically choose the PS3? The vast majority of PS2 owners are more casual gamers and then the Wii looks more attractive to them… also the 360 is just so much cheaper which is more reason to go for that.
