I’ve got to be honest, and admit that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters , sounds like a silly concept, even for me. But silly doesn’t actually mean bad in this case. The film could still work, especially if it decides to not take itself too seriously.
The first proper trailer for the film, had none of those ideas. The latest red band trailer however? Now that’s the film that I want to see!One of the wonderful aspects of red band trailers, is that they can communicate a lot more of the film tone in two minutes, especially if it happens to be dripping more blood than a neighbourhood butchery, than a green band trailer ever could.
And boy oh boy, does Hansel and Gretel have a lot of violence in it. But seeing the characters approach the ridiculous with a flippant attitude and witchicide in their eyes? This could be the film that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter wanted to be when it grew up. It’s out next year, stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in the lead roles, with Tommy Wirkola directing.

While this looks much better than the green band trailer which was awful, I’m still on the fence about this one. If they go full on tongue-in-cheek it could work, but we won’t really know what’s up until some reviews start rolling in.
