ABC has released several trailers to showcase their new line-up and one of these new shows they will be releasing is Conviction. The show stars Harley Atwell (Agent Carter) as a troubled first daughter who is given a chance to turn things around by leading a team whose task it is to look at potential wrongful convictions and over-turn them. Except, only she seems to be doing anything in her power, to avoid hard work or making serious changes.

The show seems like your typical court room drama stuff and doesn’t appear to offer anything new and looks to rely on Atwell to almost exclusively anchor the film and so if you are not a fan of her work, you will likely want to avoid this show.

As with most shows of this type, it is the chemistry between the characters that will really make a difference and with a strong production team putting this together, there is a chance that they can create some good material. It might struggle to stand out from the already crowded schedule of high-quality shows though.

There is no confirmed release date, though we should be able to expect it around our spring time later this year.

The official synopsis is below:

Lawyer and former First Daughter Hayes Morrison (Hayley Atwell, “Marvel’s Agent Carter”) is about to accept a job offered from her sexy nemesis, NY District Attorney Wayne Wallis, to avoid jail time for cocaine possession and avoid hurting her mother’s Senate campaign. Working with his team at the new Conviction Integrity Unit will let her use her brilliant mind to turn over cases, where there is credible suspicion of wrongful conviction, and give her a chance to turn things around with her high-powered political family. In addition to Atwell, “Conviction” stars Eddie Cahill as Wayne Wallis, Shawn Ashmore as Sam Sullivan, Merrin Dungey as Maxine Barton, Emily Kinney as Tess Thompson, Manny Montana as Franklin “Frankie” Rios and Daniel di Tomasso as Jackson Morrison. “Conviction” is from The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios. “Conviction” is co-created by writer Liz Friedman (“Elementary,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and director Liz Friedlander (“The Following”). Friedman and Friedlander will executive produce with Mark Gordon (“Criminal Minds,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Saving Private Ryan”) and Nick Pepper.

Thinking the same thing – basically gave us the first episode for free! Maybe they should consider making the entire series just short snippets of compact emotion – your daily dose of feels?
