When I first heard of a live-action Jungle Book movie, I was a little skeptical if it would actually work. It’s the kind of story that is tailor made for an animated movie and I wasn’t so sure if a live action film would be able to get the feel of the film right – let alone the incredible CGI they would need to make it work.

However when the first trailer for the film dropped in the Superbowl slot, I was completely blown away at not only how amazing the CGI looked, but how the look and tone of the film seemed to actually match the source material. And this new extended Max trailer has only reaffirmed my position that this is going to be a film to watch out for and likely be an incredible experience for young and old. Let’s just hope kids don’t all walk out of this singing that “The Bare Necessities” song on repeat. Parents – you have been warned.

The film opens in theatres later this month and stars the voice talents of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito and Christopher Walken. The film is being directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and this adaptation was written by Justin Marks.

Based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan, who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera, and the free-spirited bear Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa, a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie, who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
