Some times when a film relies on one actor to pull it through its enough to get the warning bells going. The film is likely to be rubbish and simply a setup for the lead star to do their stuff, with everything else taking a back seat. With Tom Cruise, it’s a little different. He has that rare ability to absolutely own a movie and yet you never feel the plot and supporting cast are secondary either, even if they are.

I always thought Tom Cruise was a little wimpy when I was growing up. But he has really transformed himself in the 21st Century and pretty much every movie he stars in these days is cool. He has gone from chick flick guy to smart action hero guy. And he is not your typical Jason Statham either.  YES,  he does his own stunts and is absolutely mesmerizing in his action and combat scenes, but he has the range and the charisma to truly own the screen and still be brutal at the same time.

The first Jack Reacher followed this typical Cruise formula. And was a fun, suspenseful action romp that absolutely deserved the sequel that it is now getting. We have seen a few trailers for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back which have all been impressive and with its release date of October 21st fast approaching it only makes sense to get a little more promotional material out, so cue an IMAX trailer and a new poster (which can be viewed at the bottom):

And it still looks cool. Perhaps a few too many cheesy one-liners creeping in to the script, but, hey its Tom Cruise kicking butt and owning it, so it can’t be too bad. Watching this in a web browser probably doesn’t do the action scenes justice, as it would in your local IMAX theatre. Regardless though, this film looks watchable whether on IMAX or not.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back also stars some other actors, but who cares, right?
