No this isn’t our review for Taken 3 (which will be out early next week). It’s just that Liam Neeson is once again back to shooting people while wearing coats/jackets, which has rapidly become his thing. The Oscar winner has carved out a nice spot for himself with these kinds of effortless action-thrillers, and he doesn’t appear to be tiring of them any time soon.
The latest, Run All Night, is Neeson’s third collaborator with director Jaume Collet-Serra, and with their previous two efforts, Unknown and Non-Stop, both being the type of “don’t think too hard about them”, easy entertainment popcorn flicks you throw on when you just want to see an older Irish gentlemen beat/shoot up some punks, I expect this to promptly follow suit.
This time though, we find Neeson as a washed out ex-hitman who has 24 hours to save his son from the mob boss he once considered a best friend, while being hunted by the police himself. I’m sure the rapidly dwindling Adidas tracksuit-wearing Eastern European male population will be very happy to hear of this change of usual location/story.
USA Today has debuted the first images from the film, which also gives us our first look at the aforementioned son and mob boss friend played by Joel Kinnaman and Ed Harris respectively.
Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days. Longtime best friend of mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris), Jimmy, now 55, is haunted by the sins of his past—as well as a dogged police detective (D’Onofrio) who’s been one step behind Jimmy for 30 years. Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.
But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago. With Mike on the run, Jimmy’s only penance for his past mistakes may be to keep his son from the same fate Jimmy is certain he’ll face himself…at the wrong end of a gun. Now, with nowhere safe to turn, Jimmy just has one night to figure out exactly where his loyalties lie and to see if he can finally make things right.
Run All Night also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Common, Holt McCallany and Beau Knapp. It is scheduled for release on February 6, 2014.

Very strong cast so hopefully this will be better than the last two Taken movies. Also, is it just me or is Liam channeling Malcolm Reynolds in that header image?
