It’s D-day! And by D-day, I don’t mean a clever new name for my birthday, but Daredevil Day! Episodes should be going live on Netflix soon, so prepare yourself for a weekend binge of the man without fear. So far, we’ve only seen Matt Murdock in his ninja outfit, which has an emphasis on him being blind and still able to kick your ass.

But the real Daredevil is a hornhead dressed in crimson. And it’s time to see that outfit, realised in all it’s glory, thanks to a recent leak from their website:

Daredevil

Marvel’s Daredevil is one of the best known properties of the street level heroes and will be the the first of four epic live-action adventure series (Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Iron Fist, and Marvel’s Luke Cage, all leading up to the teaming of the main characters in Marvel’s The Defenders) that delves into the backstory of how Matt Murdock evolves into Daredevil.

Marvel’s first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus”, “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer”, “Angel”) and Drew Goddard ( “Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, in addition to writing the first two episodes of Daredevil), along with Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Smallville,” “Heroes”), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. The series is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

Update: IGN has another look at the costume, right here:

Daredevil

I’m digging it! Like most costumes from Marvel movies, there’s several layers at work here, as the costume blends armour and a tight weave together in order to form the hero of Hell’s Kitchen. It’s quite horny. And I’m not sorry for making that horrible joke. And since its Friday, let’s sit back and check out the design process of the first Daredevil costume from the 2003 movie starring Ben Affleck. A costume which I rather liked very much as well:

Daredevil. It’s on Netflix, right now. And I’m stuck here working, dammit.

  1. I pray for forgiveness for what i’m about to say….

OMG, what were the COSTUME DESIGNERS thinking??? The mouth area, against the dark costume & background, looks like a freakin’ smile. Daredevil with a smile, wonderful! It’s like he came out of a cosplay convention, a good cosplay convention but a convention nevertheless.

and i thought with the soft/silk-like armor that the “Bald guy” made for Fisk’s suit, the costume would have been more like a reddish-version of his black costume, with some headgear adjustments and specific light paddings. Clings to his body, cause the ‘actor’ has a body that you want to accentuate, not a body that u want to ‘cover up’. With the black ninja like shirt, he looked dangerous. With the costume, he just looked campy, like 90s campy. Took me right out of the tv show and back into Affleck’s daredevil (actually affleck’s daredevil costume at least looks better for the times)and Batman’s overated Nolan trilogy. And where was the explanation for the horns? if he was using the ‘horns’ as sharp punch-deflecting instruments i’d understand but nothing was mentioned. Or maybe the “Bald guy” figured that since the black mask is also refered to as a ‘devil’ he’ll put a pair of horns on the costume”. ridiculous.

The writing for this show has been mostly excellent – exciting, heartfelt, intelligent drama/angles, sarcastic wit/humor, etc BUT the costume …..God. The costume designers deserve a billy club in between the legs.
