Here's what Vision will look like in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Despite his name being the only one right there in the title, Ultron is not the only fan-favourite robot character that will be making his debut in Joss Whedon’s upcoming Avengers sequel. After years of just being J.A.R.V.I.S., essentially the voice of Tony Stark’s house, Paul Bettany will become a real boy be getting a body of his own in the form of the robot hero Vision. Now as fans should know, in the comic Vision is not just an upgraded version of Iron Man’s AI, but is actually created by Ultron himself.

But while Marvel obviously changed his origin story to better suit their Cinematic Universe, it appears that they have had done very little tweaking to how he looks. A forum user on the SuperheroHype forums by the name of Marvel_Freshman, managed to somehow take a pic of this piece of still unreleased promo art for the film, on which Vision is completely revealed for the first time.

And here’s a much closer look, so that you can check out all the details this low-res pic will allow.

I’ve already seen a number of so-called Marvel fanboys decrying this costume, as it gets rid of the classic green bodysuit and giant yellow collar, and adds some new detailing on the costume, but these “fanboys” obviously haven’t been following the character closely in the comics lately. After the “Age of Ultron” comic book storyline from which this movie takes its name (but not any story elements) concluded last year, S.H.I.E.L.D. formed a new team of tech-based Avengers to hunt down a rogue A.I. This team was led by Vision, who was also given a new costume/facelift. Here’s the classic look, side by side with Vision’s new duds, and you can see that this movie version is a very good combination of the two, with a slightly tweaked colour scheme.

I really dig the new look – it’s accurate enough, while also getting rid of the more sillier aspects – and I have full faith in Bettany to bring this fan-favourite character to life. Now the only question is whether or not Marvel plan to delve into the whole Vision/Scarlet Witch romance. I’m not sure that Joe Q. Public is quite ready yet for red-skinned androids and reality altering mutants knocking boots and getting hitched.
