Thus far, the only official vision (sorry) we’ve had of Paul Bettany’s Vision was a brief shot of his face in one of the earlier trailers for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The fan favourite red/pink faced android is one of the big new additions to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, so many just assumed that writer/director Joss Whedon and co were holding back his actual reveal for the movie itself. But apparently, magazine covers trump in-movie fan service.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features a series of different covers that interlock to form a new banner (not that kind of Banner) for the upcoming Age of Ultron, and lo and behold, one of these very covers features our first real official look at the character. And I like it!

Following on from that cover, Marvel also unveiled an official character poster for Vision that gives us an even closer look at him.

As mentioned previously, the look of the movie version of Vision appears to be a combination of his classic green and yellow duds and his latest, collarless form. Based on its original silly size, I’m guessing that the lack of collar helped considerably to keep the film’s budget down.

For those of you not in the know, in Age of Ultron Vision is of course just the latest version of an old character, namely Tony Stark’s AI system J.A.R.V.I.S. which has been voiced by Bettany in all movies thus far. Now though, Bettany gets a physical upgrade in the form of an android body which – if they stick to the comic book origins – is actually created by Ultron himself. His power-set includes robot superstrength and durability, flight and, more uniquely, the ability to alter the density of his molecules and thus phase through objects.

Also, a seriously mean robot scowl if that pic is anything to go by. Seriously he looks right pissed off. I guess no more Mr. Nice J.A.R.V.I.S.?

Here are the rest of the covers as well as the (very badly photoshopped) banner that connects them all. Click to enlarge.

  1. Kervyn, you have your release date wrong there. Almost gave me a heart attack, thinking I missed the release of the movie.
