Batman is certainly hogging the headlines this week as his superhero slapfight with Superman hits cinema screens everywhere. And as you may have heard (if you read my review), Ben Affleck’s portrayal of the Dark Knight is one of the best things about Batman v Superman: This Title Still Stinks Even After I’ve Seen The Movies. Of course, he’s not the only Batman we’ll be seeing on screen in the next 12 months, as The Lego Batman Movie is scheduled to hit theatres early next year. And just like the brilliant Lego Movie that spawned this spinoff, everything is looking awesome!

USAToday has debuted several pics from the film, which gives us numerous looks at Batman, his Bat-cave, his Batwing and his… sausages? Check them out below.

While we’re yet to see what the Robin (Michael Cera), Batgirl (Rosario Dawson), and Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) look like, Will Arnett, the voice of this blocky Batman reprising his role from The Lego Movie, did reveal the first teaser poster for the movie on Twitter yesterday.

Arnett also spoke about aspects of Batman’s world that we’ll be seeing in this movie.

“The Batcave is even better than we remembered it, it’s awesome. But I also love getting into the ho-hum day-to-day of being Batman and what it’s like to fight crime each day. Like the idea of Batman oversleeping his alarm clock makes me laugh. It really does humanize him.”

Director Chris McKay – who was the animation director on The Lego Movie – also dished up some plot details, revealing that this won’t be your typical superhero story, but rather tells the tongue-in-cheek the tale of how this solitary crimefighter’s world gets turned upside down when the rest of the Bat-family starts showing up.

“Batman is an island onto himself, the only thing he doesn’t have is relationship. We’re making About a Boy as directed by (action director) Michael Mann.”

“We thought if we can tell a well-rounded, funny story that’s action-packed, we can build a big movie around this character. This is the movie we would want to see.”

And just like in The Lego Movie, everything in this animated flick is built of those little bricks.

“At first it doesn’t look like it’s all built in Lego. But as you get closer you realize it is. We’re building an entire city, the Batcave and vehicles, going deep into Batman’s world.”

The Lego Batman Movie also star the voice talents of Zack Galifianakis as the Joker and Mariah Carey as the Mayor of Gotham City. Yes, that Mariah Carey. It is scheduled for release on February 10, 2017.
