Here's your first look at the magnificent moustaches of Quentin Tarantino's HATEFUL EIGHT

I may not be a Quentin Tarantino film, but there’s no denying the impact that the director has had on Hollywood. It’s been a while since Tarantino has been behind a camera however, with the infamously-tempered helmer almost calling it quits on his western project, The Hateful Eight.

Fortunately for his fans, that particular temper tantrum eventually subsided, allowing Tarantino to get back to making his  anti-Magnificent Seven film. And EW got a first look at the film:

hateful-eight

Speaking to the magazine, Tarantino compared the isolated primary location of this film to the setting of his first breakthrough movie, Reservoir Dogs:

For me it has more of a western ‘Iceman Cometh’ kind of vibe about it. A bunch of guys in a room who can’t trust each other. That wasn’t a marching order when I sat down to write the script, but pretty quickly I realized this is kind of a nice coming-full-circle.

There’s a helluva cast in place for this film, all fielding gritty moustaches as far as the eye can see. Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Lee, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Bruce Dern will be slapping leather. Here’s the official synopsis from The Weinstein Company:

In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

A release date hasn’t been set yet, although expect this film to release during the window of contenders for the Oscars next year.
