Aw crap, I’m doing it again. See, I rather enjoyed the first Transformers film. It had some issues but it was surprisingly entertaining. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, not so much. I could feel my brain cells transforming into brain farts while watching that sequel. Which is why I was not looking forward to Transformers: Dark of the Moon at all. And then the first trailer came out, and I found myself getting all excited for it. The main reason: Optimus Prime looked like the badass he was always meant to be and Director Michael Bay at least delivered on that point in the full film, despite the film’s serious other flaws.

Which brings us to this first official look at the new Optimus Prime…

That right there is one mean looking leader of the Autobots gracing the cover of the latest issue of Empire magazine. And like I mentioned above, when it comes to badass Optimus Prime, I jut can’t seem to stop myself from getting a smidgen excited to see the new film, Transformers: Age of Extinction. All of this despite the fact that I know that there’s a fairly high chance that Bay will be reserving the most character development and narrative depth for his explosions.

Maybe it’s the presence of Mark Wahlberg, an actor whose on screen charisma I’ve really come to appreciate of late. And you can also get the first official look at him and the rest of the lead human cast in Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz in the image above.

Empire has also released a new behind the scenes image, which sees Bay shooting a scene in which everybody has clearly forgotten just how cars are supposed to work.

Still no pics to confirm those previously reported Dinobots next to the Autobots and Decepticons though. Which is a good thing, because then I would automatically have put up a mental block on every bad moment in the franchise thus far and already be booking my ticket.

What we do also have though, are these two videos from Entertainment Tonight who visited both the movie’s Detroit and Hong Kong sets and get to check out some behind the scenes action, check what the cast get up to, and get Bay to spill on the tiniest of plot details.

Transformers: Age of Extinction also stars Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, T.J. Miller, Titus Welliver, Han Geng, Sophia Myles, and Li Bingbing and is scheduled to release on June 27, 2014.

  1. I hope Transfomers 4 works with Mark Wahlberg taking lead role, he wouldn’t be my first pick, but I could be wrong and blown away by his acting.
