Heroes creator Tim Kring talks HEROES REBORN

If there was a show that I both loved and hated, it had to be Heroes. It brought realism to a comic book idea, but it did so with some insufferable characters and a lead villain who should have been one of the biggest bads to ever walk the planet who instead flip-flopped between protagonist and antagonist more than a vaalie invasion of the beach. Hopefully, the mini-series can inject some fire back into the show which peaked way too early.

Taking place after season 4 of the show, Heroes Reborn will arrive as a 13 episode limited series that will see more new faces than old ones. Such as Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet, as Tim Kring explained to EW:

The vast, vast majority are brand new characters, brand new ideas. [Bringing back previous characters is] really only to give a sense of continuity and a tether to the original world. If it was all completely brand new, we’d miss certain elements that need to be there to give you that bridge to cross to something new. I approached Coleman because he was a character who had a spine through the series that allowed you to meet new characters. So he’s a character I wanted to make sure had a little part at the beginning of this thing.

What’s odd however, is that it wasn’t Kring who wanted to do another Heroes show. It was parent network NBC, who approached Kring to helm the new series:

They saw the value in that franchise and brand and asked if I was interested in helming it again. And we had left the story in a place where we had more story to tell. So given the opportunity, I had ideas of where I wanted the story to go originally when we were hoping for a fifth season and so when we were given the opportunity five years later, some of those same thoughts were there as to where this story goes. But five years had passed and I also had new ideas on how to reboot the brand in away that gives people a whole fresh take on the series with a whole host of new characters but gives you that sense of you’re in that world of Heroes you’re familiar with.

As long as Heroes doesn’t include a circus-themed supervillain and another annoying cheerleader who complains relentlessly about her ace set of powers, I’m down with another series of Heroes.

“flip-flopped between protagonist and antagonist more than a vaalie invasion of the beach.”

    BEST LINE EVER.

I loved season 1, liked season 2, got bored out of my mind halfway through season 3. This is a textbook example of a show that starts off with all the right parts but gets overburdened and watered down to extend the story to the next season. They should have stopped after season 2. Now they want to waste my time again!

You preached, you said. You made sense. Finished. Season 1 was AWESOME.

To paraphrase Tina Turner: We don’t another Heroes!
