Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 did superbly well at the theaters, pulling in some $857 million and warming the cockles of many a fan. It also offered the second addition to Peter Quill’s music collection, simply named Awesome Mix Vol. 2. This time round though director James Gunn’s eclectic choice of music was a little less commercial and so possibly not as hard hitting as the first. I’ve had a few people say they prefer the first album and can completely understand where they are coming from. Personally, I think the second album has more depth to it. I’ve had a few people say they prefer the first album and can completely understand where they are coming from. Personally, I think the second album has more depth to it. Each of the songs resonates with what is taking place on the screen in a far more connected and emotional manner. That’s not to say there are no fun songs; one of my favourite is the Gunn-penned original song “Guardians of the Galaxy Inferno” featuring David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff! It makes sense, he does have a one-second cameo in the movie…

The song is a mash up of Marvel’s theme with some serious disco. According to Gunn, the lyrics to the song were penned on a piece of paper while he was out and about. He then refined it and brought in The Sneepers to put the tune together. It screams funk and the lyrics are so typically Gunn you can see why he not only injected himself into the chorus but also into the newly announced music video! Behold, a picture of AWESOME…

I need this in my life! The song appears at the end-credit sequence and also features the cast dressed up in disco garb. You’ll note in the above picture from left to right: Karen Gillan (Nebula), James Gunn, Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), David Hasselhoff, a random robot, David Bautista (Drax), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Michael Rooker (Yondu). What screams at the universe for correction is the lack of Star-Lord Chris Pratt, Rocket Racoon and Vin ‘Baby Groot’ Diesel. I get the latter two, I mean they are creations of expensive CGI magic, but Pratt, where for out thou?! I assume it’s because he’s off filming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (or was, as filming wrapped up just a few days ago). Still, maybe he’s hiding inside the robot suit? We can wish!

The music video will be available as a special feature on the DVD, digital, blu-ray and 4K home release versions of the movie in August. Sadly, this means we need to wait another month for the music video to land but here is the actual song for the time being.
