Hugh Jackman will take SIX YEARS to figure his life out

Poor Hugh Jackman. The guy just can’t get a break. First he had his brain rewired while molten metal got pumped into his bones (not cool), then he got locked up just for being a hungry French dude and was then even forced to sing about it, and now it turns out that his whole married life was just one giant sham.

Well, not his real married life, of course. That’s still going strong. I’m talking about his new leading role in Six Years, an adaptation of Harlan’s Coben’s latest novel.

If you’re a Harlan Corben fan, and according to Wikipedia there are quite a few of you, then you may be wondering why you’ve never read Six Years. Well that’s because the book is only being officially released today (which is a huge improvement on the latest trend of starting to make to the film adaptation 3 months before the book is released).

Here’s the official synopsis for the novel, as well as what has now become the obligatory book trailer.

ix years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for . . . but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for more than a decade, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart—and who lied to him—soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on carefully constructed fiction

Jackman has been knocking pretty much every role he’s had over the last couple years out of the park, culminating in his most recent Oscar nomination for Les Miserables, so I have plenty of faith in him. And that plot – which sounds very Nowhere Man-ish – could make for a decent script page turner. Well, at least the studios think so, as THR reports that was apparently a four way bidding war for the film rights which Paramount eventually ended up getting.

This marks the second of Coben’s novels to recently be picked up for big Hollywood adaptation. His Tell No One was previously adapted in a French production with recent news that Warner Bros acquired the English language remake rights and have multiple award winner Ben Affleck (four years later and it still sounds weird to say out loud) to direct with his Argo collaborator Chris Terrio producing the script.
