In-Fear

Last week’s Sundance Festival produced a lot of buzz around some films, but I hope you didn’t get too buzzed up, as chances are you won’t be seeing those films for a quite some time. That’s unfortunately just how the movie distribution business works. Which is why one such film that got all buzzy at last year’s Sundance, In Fear, is only now getting a release. But according to those who’ve seen it, this micro-scaled (it’s essentially three people and a car, nothing else) horror is worth the wait.

While young couple Tom and Lucy are driving to a festival in the remote Irish countryside they leave the main highway to look for their hotel and quickly lose their way along the back-roads. Lost and tormented as night falls, Tom and Lucy’s primal anxieties of the dark and the unknown start to take hold. When the couple discovers they are not alone, they realize that their worst fears lay in the road ahead.

The film was directed by Jeremy Lovering, who has been plying his trade in British television for years now already. If his name rings a bell though, it’s because he was the man behind the camera for the recent season 3 premier of BBC’s Sherlock, “An Empty Hearse”. He showed off some great skills behind the camera there, and apparently he does the same in In Fear, which is currently sitting on an astounding 100% approval rating over at Rotten Tomatoes.

I think it’s safe to say that this film just jumped onto my radar in a big way. I also think it’s safe to say that I won’t be stopping along the side of the road any time soon.

In Fear stars Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures), Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Allen Leech (Downtown Abbey) and will be creeping you out on you drive home from the cinema on March 7, 2014. The film will have a very limited releasing before hitting Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on March 11.
