Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned hot dog? It’s the kind of food that’s so good, that’s it’s worth the inevitable penis jokes and giggles that awaits you should you order one. From the regular wiener to the humble boerewors, there are a ton of fantastic variants within that food group as well. But nothing beats the original.
But the very best hot dog that I’ve ever eaten, was a day after E3 this year. Down in Santa Monica, you can find Route 66 and the pier that it ends on. A pier that is populated with all manner of knick knacks and tourist baubles. But near the start of the pier, there happens to be Soda Jerks. And at that joint, I feasted on a hot dog that was filled to the brim with sausage, bacon and melted cheese.
And it was glorious. The cheese melted inside the crispy bun, the bacon had a wafting odour of pure delicious porcine goodness and the wiener itself was fresh and devoid of any fat or gristle whatsoever. Truly, a hot dog for the gods. Ye gads, I so crave one right now!
