This is not a joke. I repeat, this is not a joke. Disney has announced that both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will be returning for Indiana Jones 5. Officially set for release on July 19, 2019, Ford will be returning as the iconic Doctor Jones, while Spielberg will taking his fifth turn in the director’s seat for the franchise.
No mention yet of any involvement from George Lucas for the as-of-yet unnamed installment, but franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are both listed as producers. Also, no mention yet of any other writers, producers or actors, so it’s likely that Disney are going to be taking the Star Wars route and keeping news about this project under tight control.
Right now, I just need to pick my jaw up off the floor. I mean, does anyone remember the absolute disaster that was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? I don’t, I’ve blocked it from my memory. I know that Disney have said previously they will make a return to the Indiana Jones franchise at some point, but I kind of hoped that it would be forgotten about. Instead, it looks like the massive success of Star Wars have lit a fire with Disney and they’re going to attempt to reboot another beloved franchise.
Now that this is officially happening and there’s nothing anyone can do about it, I do hope that Disney do well with is. I really don’t want it to fail, but after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull there is a looooong uphill climb for this franchise. Just, please no Shia LaBeouf. Please.
The official press release is as follows:
SPIELBERG AND FORD REUNITE AS INDIANA JONES RETURNS TO THEATERS JULY 19, 2019
Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

“I’m like a bad penny, I always turn up.”–Indiana Jones from The Last Crusade. Seems that my favourite actor as a child is becoming that bad penny.

Crystal Skull wasn’t all that bad. I actually loved that they ventured into the Ancient Alien theory. Yeah, surviving a nuke by hiding in a fridge was crazy, but so was surviving a fall from a plane on a damn inflatable life raft in temple of doom. It had great action, awesome characters (yes, I liked Shia, even though the swinging on the vines with monkeys was absolute shit) and Harrison still rocks. I like him because he plays his age.

I also enjoyed it, don’t understand why people hate it so much. Because it had aliens instead of the usual magic?

I also liked the movie… I would just prefer if they choose another actor for the son.

But Harrison Ford is getting really old now…. At this rate he’ll be the old father archaeologist and his son the adventurous daring charismatic all round badass.

It’s obviously a stage name, chosen by himself. Which kind of just makes me like him even less for choosing something like this. Same goes for Angelina Jolie.

But that is her real first & middle name. Dropped the surname because of her crap with her dad.
