A couple of years back…No wait, quite a few years ago, The Mummy hit our screens, and for a film that did not have too much marketing, faith or cash behind it, it actually turned out to be a pretty damn good film.
Great actors, decent special FX, a return to the adventure films of old and Arnold Vosloo combined for a great experience, which resulted in two more sequels and a cartoon that currently resides in animation hell.
Plus, those other, more scorpioney-based spin-off films, but the less said, the better.
And now, it looks like a new, rebooted curse of the Pharaohs is on the way back to the big screen.Universal Studios recently announced that they will indeed be rebooting the franchise, which will include a new script from Prometheus co-scribe Jon Spaihts.
“I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus: to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before,” Spaihts told Variety about Imhotep-rebooting ideas.
While it’s doubtful that any of the original actors will be present, such as Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo, it’s going to be interesting to see which characters survive to re-appear in the new take on the film.
