Unlike some of my already disillusioned colleagues, I still love me some Game of Thrones. But as fantastic as HBO’s fantasy drama has been, there’s no denying that it doesn’t quite scratch that fantasy itch for me. Sure they got a couple of fire breathing dragons, some super cool undead and the worst case of dry skin ever (Ingram’s Camphor cream can make a killing in Westeros!), but it’s still way more familial drama and political intrigue than anything else.

Luckily, MTV seems to have this covered with the incredible looking The Shannara Chronicles. Based on Terry Brooks’ best selling novel series, The Shannara Chronicles is set thousands of years in the future, but this post-apocalyptic world is overrun with mystical creatures, fierce monsters and dudes who can shoot fireballs out of their fists. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Producers Jon Favreau (Iron Man 1 & 2) and the duo of Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) already gave us our first breathtaking glimpse of the show two months ago, but during this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards, a brand new action-packed trailer was released giving us an even better look at the show’s fantastic visuals, magical battles and eerie monster romance. Yes, you read that last part correctly.

Check it out below.

The Shannara Chronicles stars Ivana Baquero, Poppy Drayton, Austin Butler, Manu Bennet, John Rhys-Davies, James Remar, Brooke Williams, Daniel MacPherson and Marcus Vanco. It is set to debut on MTV in January 2016.
