Xcom 2 base

XCOM has always had a bunch of gameplay features that make it fun and unique to each player. Sure, customizing your squad and how you approach any given mission will make your gameplay story different, but how you choose to upgrade your base is also a key part of the experience. The all new base in XCOM 2 goes over the top.

Alessandro got to see XCOM 2’s all new base, Avenger, when he was in Germany, and he told us all about it. Of course, we can’t believe what he says, right? Well, now you can watch the same video he had to fly to Europe to see, all from the comfort of your own home/desk chair/loo. Here are 12 minutes of details about the all new upgradeable mobile HQ:

The base is looking so slick. I love the art direction for XCOM 2, it feels somewhat familiar while being alien and unique. Plus it’s just gorgeous. As usual, players can choose how to upgrade the base and allocate resources and personnel. How you customize your base will end up changing your gameplay options, which will change your entire experience of the game. Yeah, this layer of strategy is pretty important, and rather exciting to see.

I adore base upgrading in games, it’s usually one of my favorite things in any game that has it. However, it really does trigger my OCD; I want to get all the upgrades, and find all the things and people that can improve my base. Now do you see why I need them to make more Suikoden?

So I never played any XCOM before, and i saw XCOM Declassified on sale for 40 bucks at BT Games so I picked it up. I figured it was a bargain and I’ve yet to play it. Is this a good gateway into the series? Is it completely different? Would i be wasting my time?

That is completely different from XCOM itself. That’s more an action/3rd person game set in the XCOM universe, which gets a lot of mixed feedback. XCOM itself is a turn based & squad based strategy game – you’d be better off picking up XCOM Enemy Unknown.

Oh I see. But surely its R40 rand worth of fun though.

I guess I’ll have to see about getting Enemy Unknown though

Lots of mixed reviews on that. I think you will have fun with it, as you haven’t played Enemy Unknown, which is very different and built a solid fanbase that rejected Declassified.

      Noooooooooooo

Wrong XCom, that’s a very poor 3rd person shooter. Wait for a Steam sale and get a copy of Firaxis XCom Enemy Within or any of the first 3 (read, ancient – XCom games UFO Enemy Unknown, Terror from the Deep or XCom Apocalypse)

I’ve heard from several people that it’s actually pretty decent game – it just got flak for going against the grain of the franchise formula. It should be worth the R40, I think.

That said, I definitely recommend X:COM Enemy Unknown, plus the expansion Enemy Within. Do take note though that the expansion modifies the campaign, instead of adding more story – so don’t expect it to continue the narrative past where the original ends.

From that last few seconds, something I miss from the classic games is base defense combat. Evacuating your unarmed science and engineers out of harms way, having you expensive base security measures pay off.

Can you pre order this somewhere? Or not yet? Looks amazing, love the changes they made for XCOM2. Still replaying Enemy Unknown… the rng is unfair sometimes but makes it exciting!
