While I’m not against the idea of Warner Bros and DC making big screen versions of Batman, Superman and the rest of the Justice League, I also kind of think that they’re focusing on the wrong medium for these films. Hell, why bother going the live action route? DC’s animation department far exceeds anything that Marvel can do, and I’d love to see these regular direct to DVD movies get a bigger budget that matches the talent behind it. See the trailer for Assault on Arkham to understand what I’m getting at.

Batman: Assault on Arkham is an upcoming direct-to-video animated superhero film that is part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies. The film will take place in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham video game franchise.

That sounds like a pitch perfect idea stolen from the Marvel playbook: Take something popular, poach the best bits out of it and leave the rest of the content alone. The Suicide Squad is becoming an increasingly regular feature in comics, with a prime role in Arrow and a rumoured video game coming up. And seeing Task Force X go head to head with the Batman sounds magic to me. Jay Oliva directs, with a release date set for the middle of the year.

  1. DC Animated movies have honestly left me breathless!

I watched all of them within 2 days and now I just want more! I prefer them over the live action movies lately…

That said DC has always been darker than Marvel and I am definitely prefering DC over Marvel because of it. Specifically Hellblazer/Constantine
