There are like, tiny things in the universe. Things which we cannot see with the naked eye, like bacteria and Kervyn’s remaining hair that isn’t grey. To see such massive things, we need to build even bigger bits of machine, which is weird when you think about it. And one of the biggest science machines built in recent times, has to be the Large Hadron Collider.

And the construction of that gigantic steel donut is a story worth telling, as the trailer for Particle Fever will explain to you.

Director Mark Levinson makes his documentary directorial debut with the film he’s been developing since 2006. His crew filmed for four years at the LHC, and then he spent another year working with Oscar-winning editor Walter Murch (“Apocalypse Now”) to cut it down to feature length. Levinson was particularly suited to tell the story, though, because before he embarked on a career in filmmaking he earned a doctorate in particle physics from the University of California at Berkeley.

The LHC is pretty damn massive. 17 miles of science and techno thingamajigs that houses the work of 10 000 scientists from around the world. It’s pure techno porn, so I’m kinda excited that this will be out soon. Particle Fever is directed by Mark Levinson, and is out March 5. If it doesn’t create a black hole that dooms us all, that is.

      Me too. OH NO!

If I remember right there was actually a court challenge to prevent them switching it on because it may create a black hole & destroy the planet.

Yes. Actually, some Japanese scientists said that something was sent from the future that indicated it was the end of the world from turning it on or something.

Someone should have told him the voices in his tentacle porn aren’t real.

If it was the end of the world, how would something from the future be able to be sent back to warn us of it? A black hole would erase the planet, so it’s not like someone would be around afterwards. haha.

Was something to do with particles that travel back in time or something… Yeah, BS!

Oh Tachyon’s? Alright…I guess I’d need to look further into what those scientists claimed to understand their reasoning.

Ya, well as @disqus_DoEH3TsffU:disqus said they were probably riding the tentacle wave 😉

Well, they kept Dr. Manhattan from seeing into his future, so clearly they’re dangerous and should not be taken lightly!

There is a bit of debate on how quickly it would happen once the black hole is formed. In theory it could take its sweet time tearing everything apart.

Indeed. Good thing the planet did not blow up cause I really wanted to play games that would come out after the fact.

It still may. The big argument against particle colliders is that the statistical odds of a black hole appearing and stabilising are not terrifically high.
